Falcons Radio Network?

Any word on where these Dirty Birds will land? I had heard they were in the final year of the agreement with Dave/790 ??

You know, who really cares.

For that matter when has ANYONE ever cared????

NFL football in most the south will never be anywhere near as popular as the college game, but Falcons will be competitive again thus creating more fan interest. Of course, it may take 2-3 years for them to get over the Vick mess.

sometimes i think the Thrashers should change their slogan from "welcom to blueland" to "well...at least we're not the falcons!"

Man.. tough room!

It is the last year for them on Dave.. My buddy Mike Baird is the engineer for the 49ers, got me a pass for the game and I talked a little with Rick Shaw.. he doesn't have a clue where they will end up. I think that both sports stations will go for them... 790 would be the closer fit since they are the "official" talk station now. The big problem for both of them is night time signal.. could make for some interesting bed fellows!

Makes more sense for them to move to WSB. Better signal, plenty of FM's to partner with.

...and we all know how eager WSB is to grab hold of such a hot commodity.....

I think this is why Hullinger was so eager to work part time at WSB, thinking he'd be "inside the Georgia Dome" soon enough.

I dont see any outcry to dump Wes Durham. He's the team's pick, besides. Not Dave's pick. He'll go where the team goes.

I bet they stay at dave. Seems like a good fit to me.

Is this the first time I've actually heard this before? To be honest, I don't really see anywhere on the FM dial that would be a good "fit" for the Falcons, like there's not a real FM that would be a good "fit" for the Braves. But, I like hearing the Falcons games on Dave, and I like Dave's promotion of the Falcons. I liked the Braves on 96Rock, and I think the "fit" was better than the Bull.

There's been an outcry for an FM talker, but they're failing all over the country, and it failed in this market when CC tried it before. But, I don't remember hearing about an FM sports talker. Would that work? I know sports sound a billion times better on FM than on AM, and they'd bill pretty well, since sports seems to sell regardless of where they're at. Thoughts?

I think thats a pretty good idea with music radio slowly fading out. In Atlanta, though, you've got two AM sports talkers already. Both are stable with plenty of cume and do well in the male demo.

I do think an FM sports talk could raid some of 680 or 790's talent, if it was programmed by a major media company.

A 3rd sports station in Atlanta? I spend my time traveling thru there plenty. No way that town is deserving. I think 2 is more than enough for any town

Yeah, maybe. But, we've got 3-4 N/T stations in the market and yet many scream for an FM N/T. With only two AM sports, would it be much of a stretch?

Perhaps 680 would like to hook up with another professional (lol) sports team!

Atlanta's 2 sports AM's together bill about $14 million. And both, especially The Zone, have serious signal problems at night. That has to be a tempting potential billings figure for an FM with one of the lesser signals but a far better metro signal than the AM's.

Roddy, I think I read that 790 alone bills that amount. I would guess the total is north of $20 million. The question is how many of the well-funded FMs are doing less than that currently. Eagle, maybe Q, probably Dave, maybe 99x is under that now....

You'd save the ASCAP fees, but take on the new rights fees. And are hiring sports jocks cheaper than music jocks? Does Chernoff make more than Mara, for instance? I dont think any of the mainline FMs would flip.

I enjoy Wes Durham and Dave Archer, but don't think Nicole Watson adds anything at all. I also feel that the elements of the broadcasts other than the game call itself are generic and less than dynamic. Two years ago the broadcasts had much better
content, with actual highlights of other games, more league wide sound clips, etc. This year and last, that content is no longer utilized. Likely that CBS and their skin-flint ways had something to do with that. Other than Durham, Archer, and Van Note in studio, the rest of the broadcast might as well have a bar code. It is that generic.
