Any predictions on the ones who will have a great book? Any flip suggestions?

The Usuals

WLVH May still be #1
WEAS UP I think will be a closer 2nd
WQBT Will be Down Again too much R&B
WAEV Down Slightly Starting to Get Stale and too much like HOTAC
WZAT UP Slightly Sounding more like a better tuned TOP 40
WGCO Flat Since it's piped in Sat Muzak
WIXV Down after it's Spike
WRHQ Flat Stat Quo
WFXH FM Down Not Focused
WTYB Down after Flip Bounce and Tweaking when they didn't need to Sounding like V103 again

Others stations Not sure I don't research or listen too

I'm still learning the whole radio landscape of Savannah, just got here a little while ago. A few questions on what's going on. What makes WLVH better than all the other stations? What stands out to make them number one? What's the difference between WEAS and WQBT? From what I read on here, they have been battling it out for a while now. What makes WEAS beat WQBT? And WAEV and WZAT...what's going on there? How is WAEV getting stale? Can someone please explain to me why Bob and Sherri are on WZAT? Maybe I'm stupid, I just don't get that. And also, how come there's virtually no talk about Savannah radio on here? It seems like there should be enough stuff going on for people to talk about on a semi frequent basis. Just curious.

Nothing really happens in Savannah, besides the occasional fringe signal getting flipped.

But, to try to inject some interest in Savannah radio, what do you all think 2007 holds for Coastal Empire stations?

I see 92.3 dropping their adult hits and going either spanish, alternative, or oldies.

I also see an adventure station (probably the Drive) whithering away to something else.

Anyone feel 2007 might be the year we have a few format flips in Savannah? TheMusicMan, are you out there? Your predictions, thoughts, etc?

Having a well-programmed alt-rock station in this market that doesn't play Buckcherry, Godsmack, or Saliva once every hour would be nice but in lieu of that...

I wish Triad would put AAA on 103.1. A fever dream perhaps but it's a hell of alot better than The Drive (give me a break...and sorry guys...no matter how many times you make the meteorologists on WSAV mention that the viewer can get their Storm Team 3 Forecast on The Drive, it doesn't matter...no one's listening!) and with some actual marketing (oh wait...this *is* Triad we're talking about), it might do decently. Not E93 numbers but decent.

Whither The Gator? I don't see Triad sticking a fork in them yet. Might a new name and imaging campaign help? Or is it over for them and KIX 96 is the unstoppable country juggernaut in Savannah?

107.9 The Coast...think they'll take some of The River? I don't know if they will as their audiences are two different types: The River caters to the Faith Hill/Celine Dion/Sarah McLachlan demo and The Coast plays alot more golden oldies and disco. I'm curious to see what bounce back, if any, The Coast will garner after the inevitable drop every station has after a format flip.

Rock 106.1...is it me? Am I an old fogey? I'm 25 and yet whenever I listen to this station I feel 45. I like alternative rock but causing my tympanic membranes to rattle with each song is not cool. Diversity is a lovely term. I wish WFXH would look up its definition and reflect the format it's continually allowed to report as.

Z102....well, what else can be said at this point? A few weeks ago I went back and spent some time re-reading all of our various posts about WZAT. Wow. Volumes and volumes of posts. And any one of them still stands true today. Is Captain Joseph Hazelwood (big Bob & Sheri fan, perhaps?) the PD there? Or maybe he's the guy in charge of whatever happens at WZAT? That might explain the severe clusterf*** that station has become and continues to be. Just what the hell is wrong with the cloud people and their slavish devotion to this dead-as-a-doornail-for-almost-five-years station? I'd like to see Z102 as an alt-rocker ala WNNX in Atlanta. But then I have to stop and remind myself that that station was inherited by Cumulus from Susquehanna. Or better yet, bring the old WZAT back and have it sound like WAVF in Charleston. I'd never change the station. But if it's the same chuckleheads in charge, I'm not certain I'd want them touching the format unless it was done properly. It's an easy formula, really: See WFXH? Now do everything opposite.

Anything I missed?

Honestly, I feel iffy making predictions about possible flips before the book drops because you never know (completely) what the numbers are going to look like. Having said that, let's see here... Keep in mind my analysis is based on 12+ ratings because, well, that's all I have access to.

I don't see a whole lot changing, quite frankly, because little has changed over the past few months.

The Beat has had a bit of trouble catching up to E-93. So the question is what going back to Russ Parr in the morning will do for them. They also made some changes in terms of airstaff (KC moving to middays, Bo & Jeff Nice in PM Drive), so this could be an interesting book for them.

I also think this book will tell us more about Magic's real place in the market. Was it a fluke, or are they going to be legitimate competition against the behemoth that is Love 101.1?

Not entirely sure where htowler is getting that KISS is sounding more Hot AC. They've always been somewhat conservative, but no more so now than before, even though there are still some recurrents I would like to see given a rest (please make Christina/ANOM and Chamillionaire go away). Their music is focused, and I don't see why things should change for them this book. As far as Z102 goes, not much has changed there either, although they do have a new mid-day jock (Gena, formerly at a station in Columbus, GA). If I had to put money on the CHR war, I'd say not much will change this time around, ratings-wise.

On to Triad... to be completely frank, I haven't listened much to any of their stations over the course of this book, except maybe Rock. I can bitch about them basically being an Active outlet all I want, but Savannah want a straight-up Alternative outlet? I know I do, but that's not the point. If they do poorly this book, I wouldn't mind them taking that direction.

If Gator doesn't pick up this book, time for some changes at 106.9 in my opinion - but I'll be honest, I have no idea what exactly those changes would entail. JackFM - just go away. No need for it. Flip it back to Oldies. I would think The Drive would have worked for Triad, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I wonder how the audience will respond to Rick & Bubba in the mornings. Again, if things keep up...changes. And The Coast certainly took a dump in the Spring, but the question remains as to whether or not they are capable of taking a chunk out of The River.

Jeff Nice No Longer Works at WQBT CC Budget Cut.

If I worked at TV Circle you think I would have put out a Negative Comment about WTYB?

Do you happen to work on Alfred St?

Once upon a time...

The key to all of this is: I hope you don't work on Alfred either.

What makes you such a expert? How many stations have you worked? What market size?

You are blasting htowler, yet 75% of the people who have the "answer" to how to fix Savannah radio have not even stepped foot in a radio station to pick up a prize.

Beautifully said Robert!

The people who can "fix" radio either cashed in and got out when the wall streeters were throwing around cash or later got fired by the streeters when they were squeezing the bottom line.

Yes, they only let go of the best people and keep all of us who know nothing at all... right?

I wish I could really say what I thought the ratings would be, but I'm not going to do that. I will however comment on Z vs us (KISS)... KKITM continues to dominate and pop music for the Fall book was some of the best ever. Especially in Savannah. Our music and jox are 100x what Z has. You can see 4.6-4.4-4.6-4.2 but you don't see the growth with W18-34 and W25-54. Our men numbers were off, but we had the best W18-34 book EVER in the Spring.

I'm not going to jinx it, but I think you'll see good things from us.

KIIS-FM LA has better sounding Internet Stream then 97.3 Kiss FM Radio Station Sound, and I mean sound quality NOT Music Playlist. I remeber someone Posting that Kiss in Savannah has a typical Kiss formay like the rest of them in the Country, this is so far from the truth. Look at KIIS Playlist then WAEV Playlist Neither look Top 40 KIIS Looks Rhythmic and WAEV Looks HOT AC.
