FALL 2009 BOOK- THOUGHTS????

Any thoughts about the fall 2009 book???? No real surprises, I will note that WBPM has slipped to an 0.9.....time to plow the turnip patch under once and for all....

WSPK/K104 dominated this individual book and it shows in the public 2 book avg 12+ for both N/M and Pk.

Otherwise in Newburgh-Middletown PDH and RRV both down, so maybe Rock isn't as in right now. GNY-FM is still a mess. GNY-AM got a nice bump, probably with Van taking over mornings.

In Poughkeepsie, nothing really to report. BPM still sounds like a mess.
 
Roger- problem is you didn't get a diary- anyone that can has been in radio or have been a fan or radio can tell you that the arbitron book isn't reliable and doesn't tell a true story about who is listening to what station. Everybody does well at one time or another....
IMHO BPM is all over the place with their music selection. thats all i'm saying,,,

Granted these numbers are meaningless when it comes to currency, it is what stations brag about and is the only thing we can discuss here. WSPK lead in Newburg and WPDH in Poughkeepsie, combined, if that is accurate to do the edge would go to WSPK. WBPM needs to decide what they want to be. They still call themselves Classic hits 92.9 but also claim to be ‘your rock station‘. I think this has a lot to do with their steady decline in overall ratings. Even lowly WKXP and usually unheard from WKZE out rank them, as do some fairly weak out of market stations, and even WKIP -AM! There have been some subtle changes here, like less off beat songs and the end of the Music Blimp. Going against the number one station in the Poughkeepsie market ,heritage rocker WPDH is a tall order, especially given WPDH’s far superior signal. The True Oldies Channel seems not to be a factor, but does Arbitron rate HD2 or translator stations? While I personally like WBPM I think they could do better if they mixed in some softer hits, thus not be so against WPDH.
WSPK seems to have reclaimed dominance in the CHR segment. I don’t listen to their type of music but a few years ago WPKF gave them a run for their money. What happened to KISS, Clear channel budget cuts?
I guess Clear Channel is happy with WBEZ settled in mid pack as there keeping with the same format for years.
WRWD showed some improvement without Tommy Lee Walker a surprise, or perhaps just another indicator that these numbers don’t really mean much.
Finally I wonder why Cumulus doesn’t combine WRRV &WRRB, which would give them a nice 5.1 share.
I know the now depend on Nelison for their ratings currency as does Clear Channel (we never heard anything about how that turned out) but they never combined this simulcast.

No it ain't! WBPM is a WPDH clone. Look what happened to CBS-FM, it does very well playing a selected choice of music the right way, WBPM took it the wrong way. But WBPM isn't "Classic Hits" anymore, maybe they should drop the moniker and calling it "Classic Rock 92.9". As for the morning show, Jack & Andre needs to go to WPDH for the "Electric Morning Show" and move Cooper & Tubin to middays and see if it does well. WPDH is still Arbitron rated #1 rock station beating WBPM in the dust. I hope if former WBPM listeners should go to WPDH for the same thing, but this is going to be the next "Jack-FM" since CBS-FM did back in 2005.

I wish that we should applaud 95.7 for the "True Oldies Channel" run by the immortal Scott Shannon which is still being carrying on WPLJ's HD2 channel when it is simulcast on 95.7, but I cannot get the signal in Kingston, except in New Paltz and Poughkeepsie where they got "True Oldies Channel" going. Guess what, I don't listened to oldies anymore, but I rather try Country a lot better.

"The Wolf" is doing a great job at 2.6, but let's see what in the ratings hold in the Spring. WRWD has the best morning show ever which is CJ from "Kiss-FM" and formerly of "Rhythm 94.3" and "B94", he does a great morning show after leaving the "Playhouse" back in the fall to make room for Elvis Duran from Z-100 and "American Idol's" Ryan Seacrest in middays on "Kiss". CJ does a great job taking over Tommy Lee Walker to fill in his shoes. I love CJ, but hopefully WRWD will get the numbers straight. Eric Hopkins did a bad morning show on "The Wolf", is Tommy Lee Walker coming to "The Wolf" after he left WRWD last year? I listened to CJ every morning on WRWD, by the time the show ends at 10 AM, I changed the station to "The Wolf" to get it going for the rest of the day. As for the station, they still carried the Yankees with the exception of the "World Series" which was being heard on "The Wolf" when it was carried not from WCBS-AM, it was from "ESPN Radio". I wonder if WEPN hasn't shown up with the World Series coverage, because WCBS-AM carried it on AM, but not on "The Wolf" where they sometimes carried the "World Series" from ESPN Radio. Now that the Yankees won the World Series, they did well with the New York Jets, but I hope it will do it for the playoffs and of course the Super Bowl. "The Wolf" carries two of the great sports games such as the Yankees and the Jets.

WKIP does a 1.5 since they had some speculation that 99.3 dropped its simulcast of WRWD back in late October to make way for an News/Talk format on FM, just like Seattle's KIRO-FM where they carried nothing but talk and the call letters changed from WRWC to calling it WKIP-FM when it was originally on 96.9 before WRRB came along back in the 90's. I hope the News/Talk station would sound better on FM rather than listening to that crummy AM station. No more of that Howard Stern type, Free-FM, WNEW trash talk, only political talk on FM.

That's all there is. Nothing else going on. Will see what happens if the Spring ratings comes out.
 
I was also wondering if Arb does repeaters in it's ratings. Of course, the owner of said repeater would have to shell out big bucks to get in the arb game. Scott's True oldies is the goods, best thing thats come along in a while; does well and just goes to show that the oldies format isn't dead, as Some think it is. hear that, Eduardo or whoever you are??? Wish a full time station would have a live morning show and run TOC as a filler the rest of the time, but don't forget, around this area they don't even use the term oldies. Turner could have had it but he screwed it up, as to quote him, "nobody listens to that stuff anymore", and it shows from way down at the bottom of the dumpster. .09 share....lmao....guess the oldies format is still up for grabs in the hudson valley...

I am into radio but not not work for a radio station. I know that K104 WSPK is a better radio station and is number 1#. In first post I just wanted to say I like WBPM alot. You have to stop picking on WBPM and Randy Turner.
 
Its funny...The Poughkeepsie book comes out and everyone is all over it. The Albany book on the other hand...The silence is deafening..What do you think? Who is primed for a format change??? Anybody????
