Fall 2024

It's that time of year again, so let's see what the stations have in mind come fall.

We already know what WBNX TV 55 is gonna do, and they have their own thread.

But what about the others?

One thing confirmed is that WUAB CW 43 will have Good Morning Football Overtime weekdays at 10a beginning 9/2.

GMF OT is a spinoff/extension of the NFL Network's longtime flagship morning show Good Morning Football, and will air in syndication all over the country (think of it as a gridiron version of the 3rd Hour of the Today Show).

If you're a college football fan, you're in luck as all 5 major networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, CW) are gonna be loaded with games every Saturday, so basically the only major local station that doesn't have a pigskin pig out will be channel 55.

A few more tidbits:

WUAB CW 43 (as of 9/9) will move Drew Barrymore to 9a (leading into GMFB: OT at 10, which debuts on 9/2), have a double shot of Judge Judy's new show "Judy Justice" at 4p (the traditional Judge Judy reruns will still air on WJW Fox 8 at 3p), have a double shot of "The Connors" (the spinoff/sequel of "Roseanne") at 12:30a, and will bury Dr. Phil reruns at 2a to play out the string.

Also, WKYC NBC 3 will rearrange their daytime lineup on 9/9 by moving Dateline to 11a, NBC News Daily to 1p, bringing in Access Daily (the daytime talk show companion to Access Hollywood) at 2p, and moving Kelly Clarkson to 3p leading into their afternoon news block at 4. The Tegna produced Daily Blast Live (which has aired on channel 3 the last few years) has been cancelled.

Though WKYC will have the "Access Daily" daytime show, WEWS ABC 5 will still air the main "Access Hollywood" nighttime show at 7:30p, as they have done for the last decade, with TV 3 running "Entertainment Tonight" at 7:30p as they have done the last quarter century.

Channel 43 is doing something interesting on Sunday afternoons, as they are replaying St. Edwards high school football games that aired live earlier that weekend on the new Rock Entertainment Sports Network (RESN) which just debuted on WOHZ 22.1.

At one time, Dr. Phil was a ratings winner on Channel 3 when it first came on back in 2002.

Surprised that Daily Blast Live is actually coming to an end. Then again, it never quite took off after its launch.

To be fair, Dr. Phil stopped producing new episodes at the end of the 22-23 season, and since fall 2023 it's been all reruns.

DBL was basically a "hot take" panel show and never really found it's groove outside the Tegna-verse.

Now that everything has or soon will fall into place, here's all the new syndicated stuff for the just beginning fall season on the local airwaves;

Off network reruns:
The Connors (WUAB CW 43 M-F at 12:30a X2)
Bob ❤️ Abishola (WBNX TV 55 M-F at 11p X2)
Suits (WEWS ABC 5 M-F 1a)

Talk shows:
Good Morning Football: Overtime (WUAB M-F at 10a)

Game shows:
The Flip Side hosted by Jaleel "Urkel" White (WBNX M-F at 2:30p and 8:30p)

Court shows:
Judy Justice (WUAB M-F at 4p X2 - Judge Judy's new show)

True Crime shows:
Crime Expose (WUAB M-F at 11p)
True Crime News (WBNX M-F at 2a)

Weekends:
NCIS: Hawaii (WBNX Sat and Sun at 11p)
Someone They Knew (WEWS Sun at 1a - true crime show from Court TV hosted by Tameron Hall)

And with CW loaded up with sports (college football, NASCAR Xfinity Series racing, LIV golf, and college basketball after the holidays) there's not a lot of room for traditional weekend syndicated fare on stations like channel 43 any more.

I wish 43 would bring back the Weekend Movie
With CW loaded up with weekend sports and evening network programming, that ship has sailed.

The last time 43 had a regularly scheduled weekend movie was the "Big Bad B Movie Show" Saturday nights during the covid lockdown period, but when CW expanded into Saturdays, BBBMS was then jettisoned to late nights and quickly/quietly cancelled.

WBNX has a twin bill of flicks Saturdays from 2-6p.

As the only true independent station in the market, 55 is the only one who can have movies scheduled on weekends, as all the other major stations in town have network commitments, so if you're looking for movies on weekends (assuming cable/streaming in not an option for you), you have 55 on Saturdays, and maybe stumbling into something on a diginet (like Movies on 55.3)

Does anybody know what the deal is with Bob Hearts Abishola? First WBNX picked it up for syndication. Now both Cozi and Laff are now airing this show. I assume there is also a cable network out there carrying this show as well, but why is it being carried on multiple broadcast providers?
