WARNING 12+ RATINGS POST !!!!
Mediafrog summed it up nicely, but need to get my penny in also.
Sunny up higher than last year. Christmas was/is good for 99.1. I have also noticed that Sunny has tweaked the format since Christmas and is more Rhythmic leaning and playing a much higher percentage of current music, most all of the music that had been a staple of Sunny is gone from the playlist. Station sounds good and is now one of the best sounding AC's I've heard in some time. Clear Channel can program a station when they have to. I don't think that Sunny 99 will see the usual ratings drop to the degree they have after Christmas this year.
I had said that I didn't think Estereo Latino would be knocked out of first place for Spanish Language stations. If Recuerdo goes up in the ratings into the low fives, and they are not far from there now and KLTN drops a few tenths, KOVE could be the new leader. The next couple of months should tell.
Radio One grabs the number two and three slots, Majic 102 and The Box respectively. KROI up, but just sliding into the two's, I thought that Urban Gospel on FM on a good signal would have a three by now. It has knocked KWWJ 1360 Baytown out of the ratings and I noticed the station (KWWJ) is brokering more time out now to preachers. I imagine that it would be wise just to turn the KYOK 1140 Conroe and KANI 1500 Wharton transmitters off and save the expense of the electricity. Doubtful if there are any listener base on those stations any longer. Would Darrell Martin be open to the idea of Urban Gold? It could be simulcast on all three stations, as their coverage doesn't really overlap with a good signal. It is a format missing from the dial and could pull some ratings and revenue.
Recuerdo KOVE up very well. I think that 106.5 could become the new number one Spanish language station in the near future, knocking out long time leader Estereo Latino. One of the best format changes since KLOL to Mega, which was up slightly and in seventh place behind KRBE, which also went up slightly. Cumulus is not destroying 104 the way I thought they would. Guess Cumulus needs more time to accomplish the destruction of KRBE.
KILT the Country leader, but only a slim 0.3 lead over Cox KKBQ.
The Wave made a nice rebound from the last book.
KTRH back in the two's and this is a station that at one time was number one with a rating in the eights when they where a real News station. I wonder if anyone will pick up on this fact? BizRadio1320 has yet to make the ratings. I haven't listened to BizRadio in a long time, so don't know if any improvements have been made to the station or is KXYZ still selling snake oil remedies?
KPRC still falling into the mid two's with KHMX "Mix", KKRW "The Arrow", and KHTC K-Hits 1075. Hopefully K-Hits will go up in the ratings after rebranding the station and revamping the playlist. K-Hits is a much better station than the ratings show (IMO).
As Mediafrog mentioned Country Legends has really dropped, down to a near perfect two. You can't program a personality orientated format with only a morning show. Cox was lucky to get the miles out of Country Legends that they did.
"The Point" down to fighting with Rock 1037 for ratings. If Cox can program a station as good as K-Hits, they must be able to come up with a new format for 106.9 that should be a winner.
Will KFNC concentrate on The Golden Triangle Market and leave Houston, program to both Houston and The Triangle or become a Houston station again? Buffalo's Sports station WGR had a 4.6 rating this last book and the number eight station in the market, yet KILT and KBME are only around a two combined. I just don't see a third Sports station having any success, especially on 97.5 in Houston. The logic of another Sports station still escapes me. Unless KFNC is going to focus on The Triangle and if they pick up anything in Houston in ratings, it is just gravy.
Now that CC has tweaked the format of Sunny 99, maybe they will do something with Mix and The Arrow and bring them out of the two ratings. Possibly either KTRH or KPRC will become a News intensive station this year and pull themselves out of the ratings fall both stations are into. Probably unlikely with KTRH or KPRC, but I would expect to see some changes at Mix and possibily The Arrow.
