Thoughts/Analysis

As always SUNNY had an excellent December with Christmas music. They were in double digits 25-54 for the third phase. This had a major impact on several stations including both Country stations which had a terrible December.

MIX is a monster of a station. It will be interesting to see if the new STAR hurts them at all. My hunch is no they won't, a CHR/Pop would do more damage. After looking at the 18-34 numbers I am starting to think that iknowpeople is right, we need a Top 40 (if it can be sold). The top 18-34 stations have unusually large shares for a market this size, that means there is room for more.

One station that might help fragment the 18-34 demo is PARTY. They had a nice December, it looks like it came directly from KLUC. Although I think the holiday music on SUNNY also hurt KLUC in December.

KLUC has the perception of having an extremely young audience. It's true they are huge in 12-24. Yet KLUC is also #5 25-54. Here's some irony...even if it's not their prime demo KLUC does better 25-54 than several stations that do target 25-54.

I am impressed how KVEG goes up 12+ each and every book, they keep setting new record highs for themselves. They are also strong and steady 18-34. Will losing Mike P hurt HOT or will it have little impact?

By far and away JACK had the biggest decline of any station. They fell from #4 25-54 in the Summer to #16 in the Fall. My hunch is KKJJ wil not return to it's peak numbers but I also wonder if it is a fluke for them to be this low?

One station that did worse than JACK was KKLZ. I believe this was the worst book in KKLZs 21 year history. Will some jock changes and adding a little 80s hair band metal solve their problems? I don't think so. It kind of makes me sad because I have fond memories of listening to early KKLZ, but this station has reached the end of it's life cycle. This reminds me of having to put an old sick pet to sleep, it's hard to do because you love the animal and have had it for a large portion of your life, but you have to do the right thing and put it out of it's misery.

On this website, If you put a 8, and a ) together , you will get a face ( 8) ) on it .

Jack is the station with no Jocks.....and now no numbers(very low)
Maybe listeners are smarter than these so called programmers think.
Any station that thinks just music and no talent can be a winner is forgetting that
XM, Sirius and the IPod do it better and go anywhere. Radio needs to get back to doing what it is capable of doing best...
entertaining! Talent, local info and the right blend of music.

It looks like it's time for Area 108 to come to an end. It's been a great experiment, but it did not catch on. There's an oldies hole in Vegas which Riviera could fill in, but will baby boomers tune in to a rimshot signal like the older listeners of the new KJUL are doing?

Go back to Urban AC for 107.9. Grab Steve Harvey's morning show(I don't think Radio One will let Joyner on out west again after the KKBT disaster) and grab Michael Baisden for the 12-4p slot. One Afternoon Jock from 4-8p, a Slow Jam from 8p-1a and Friday and Saturday Nights a mixshow from 8p-2a. Mabye they could do one weekday mix @5 or 6 depending upon if it can fit).

Too bad RO took the KRBV calls for LA, we could actually use those in LV. :)
