Fall Book

Well, the fall book is out. Who did Santa help this year?
See for yourself at allaccess dot com or radioandrecords dot com.

I see that the ratings are available at this website, radio-info.com. Xmas did very well, no surprise there. Talk radio had its best book of all time, very interesting; it almost seems like it came from nowhere, the older folks in the market now have nowhere to turn....I wonder if talkradio picked up former adult standards listeners....thoughts anyone?

I think most of WNAK's listeners flocked to WILK, what over market choice would they have, expect maybe Magic for the younger end of the WNAK listenership.

The Entercom folks must be happy, as least 12+, to have 3 of the top five stations, gains from WKRZ, Froggy and WILK all are positive. :)

And where is "the watcher" ??? You remember him? The one who was foretelling the doom of WILK. According to the all seeing, all powerful and all knowing "watcher" WILK was programmed ineptly and the talk show hosts were all lacking. They were all going to be out of work and the ratings were going to plummet unless his programing expertise was heeded.

WILK has made a big leap and "the watcher" not only stopped blogging he deleted all his sage wisdom (dripping sarcasm)

Congrats to Nancy Kman, Kevin, Sue, Steve and those behind the scenes at WILK...

I know the watcher was posting here for a while, along with running his forum. So what are your thoughts, Watcher?

Sorry, I forgot the ratings were on this site. Did you notice NEPA fell to market 70? However, if Mayor Lou in Hazleton backs off on the illegal immigration issue, we could grab maybe 10,000 Illegals and move to #68.

I think the fall book has become such a fluke with the monstrous Christmas music. Think of where all the non-in-the-mood listeners went and where did all the in-the-mood listeners come from after LNP and Magic went all Christmas.

P.S. I miss riling up the watcher :(

I was taught a long time ago not to trust big jumps or big drops in the ratings. Congratulations to WILK, but I'll wait to see if the numbers stay steady. 107 is way, way down from the fall, but still ahead of where it was one year ago.

Back in the "good ol days"-BFT before talk, the "Book" was something that air talent wasn't allowed to see, touch, or even smell. But Bob Perisi, rest his soul, would leave his copy "accidently" on top of his desk, so the morning after was spent going through the book page by page, line by line. When management tried to tell us how bad things were, we'd have the ammo to tell the facts. At the beginning of the spring book around 1989 or so, we were told we would get a 1,000 bonus for every rating point we increased. Well, Harry, Terry and I pulled it off but we didn't get a dime-Bruce Williams dropped and we were told it wasn't an individual bonus but a bonus if all dayparts increased. They pulled the same stunt with sales.

That's why, ever since I was doing nights at BHT, I've always taken the 4-book average.

I was wondering if college radio plays a role in the fall book in Monroe County?
There is one particular station that comes to mind and that is WESS in East Stroudsburg.
They do have a strong oldies show on Friday afternoons which seems to be a void on the other commercial stations. I would be interested in seeing the break downs during that particular time slot against the "established" commercial stations in that market.
I know its a college station but after all, if it sounds good, people will listen.
