Fall Book

does anyone think that The WOLF will come back against KMPS this year? KMPS seems to
have restablished themselves but the dudes still sound pretty old The country audience 18-34
done evaporated I'm thinkin with christmas music goes away and arbirtron gets its head on straight
18-34 will come back to WOLF and the battle begins again. One country young and one old

I've seen in other markets the "old guys" always dominated the younger country station. Correct me if I'm wrong but KMPS was the much stronger cowboy even in the 90s when the former FM 96.5 Young Country was around. My guess is that KMPS will have the stronger numbers over WOLF for a very long time, based on what I see in other markets and this market's history. KMPS may be a dinosaur, but its competition can not easily catch up.

Reminds me of the old days when Jennings/Siegel were fired from KING, which was stuck at 2 shares, and then under Jennings, KVI acheived over 6 shares in 1994 12+

My recollction of those days was that Shannon Sweatte had kind of mapped out what KVI was going to do ... building the station around an emerging "Rush Limbaugh" and THEN brought in Jennings (I think he was in PDX at that point). So BJ was given the direction and the tools and the station took off on Limbaugh's shoulders. Rest of the mix was strongest it ever was at that point...but no question that Rush carried KVI like he did many other stations at that point.

Today's it's a different story.

How'd Thee End do? How'd Thee End do?

Did they do BIG numbers again?

"Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na -Hey Hey Hey" ::)

That lunch would be tuna fish out of the can. The guy would open up a can of tuna for lunch and tell you a story about how disgusting it was to eat meat or pork.

Note to Kevin: Tuna, like Salmon, are becoming endangered. The fish you eat now are farmed in nets surrounded by poop, just like the hogs you won't touch. The Mountain sounds a little bit better however. Kudos.

Fall book is meaningless, even his lady tunes into Christmas music to get into the ya ya spirit. Winter is when
the game begins with the new Monti mornings on MOVin that should eat into KUBE once and for all. Mamma loves
the new year.

Look mama,

I admire you for getting behind a station that you enjoy and support it as much as you do on this board, but let's just state the facts. Movin was created by a company that didn't want to spend alot of money but wanted to steal some listeners from KBKS and KUBE. They were successful in doing that. But let me make this clear. They will NEVER overtake KUBE and even though I'm not a fan of KISS, it is only a matter of time before they get their act together and start beating you again.

Secondly, your morning show is terrible. I understand you need to voice your support for fellow women, but if you think these gals are talented, you need to lay off the crack.

On the
AM dial only KIRO was a top ten player. Ross and Monson finished top five 25-54 and top two
in the last two months. No other AM station KPTK, KOMO, KVI, KTTH, KKOL was even in the
top 15 against Ross and Monson. KIRO afternoons finished 3rd for the book.

What does KIRO have that KOMO doesn't???

Would someone care to explain why KOMO 1000 doesn't do as well as KIRO AM 710 (except during baseball season). Even when Ms are playing, KIRO could be surpassing them or only close behind. KOMO's format is very much like KIRO's but with plenty more street reporters, feature stories, breaking news. So what does KIRO have that KOMO doesn't?

That's an easy one.

Besides the differences in signal quality (KIRO is MUCH better), all-news is a format that has high cume and low TSL, so generally it's not a format that pulls in market-leading numbers. But there's more to it than that.

All-news is an expensive format to produce and KOMO is a shining example of how to do the format on the cheap. I'm not going to waste time with specifics, but other than hiring some high-priced talent, the company spends as little as possible on running the station. And the average Joe can hear the difference on the air.

By the way, it's KIRO, not KOMO that has more street reporters and feature stories. And KIRO has the Murrow awards to prove it.

To be fair, KOMO actually beat KIRO in Morning Drive in the Fall book and on a four book the two stations are very close in morning drive with KIRO slightly ahead. It is mid-days, afternoons and nights (when the Mariners don't play) where KIRO has a large lead over KOMO. SeattleRadioPro is right. Cume is about the same, but TSL on KIRO is much much stronger.

Mamma? "The Fall book is meaningless?" Yes, to everyone but advertisers. LOL
The Fall book is hands down the most important rating period of them all. More dollars are spent based on the Fall book then any of the others. Spring is 2nd, Winter 3rd, Summer last. This is mybusinesss so trust me Mamma, because your sounding like a sour grapes, underknowledged baby and you should hold yourself higher than that in this chicks opinion.

I completely agree that every book is important but the Fall book is most important. For Mamma to say the Fall book is meaningless makes her lose any credibility she may have had left.
If you ask any sales manager, GM or even PD (if they truly know what's going on) to select the rating book that they could eek out their highest ratings numbers in they would say the Fall book.
At least that's how we do business in my market (big ole apple)

Both stations are repetative in the mornings, with a slight edge in my opinion going to KOMO because they seem a little less robotic. Neither stations have anchors with interesting personalities, although the edge there goes to Hersholt (can't stand his co-anchor who screams the news.)

The midday guy on KOMO, Rice, often sounds like a top-40-jock. I wish he'd turn it down a notch or two.
