Fall Chico/Redding Ratings

Redding and Chico Fall books have come out this week, any surprises?

I know it's been mentioned before, but the lack of a Top 40 in Chico leads way to KSFM, KDND and KEWB all showing up in the Chico book. Most notably KSFM with a 3.3 share.

KMXI also had a strong showing moving up 2 + shares

As Someone who knows a lot about Radio in the area I'll give you my thoughts station by station
KHSL-FM 7.4 to 8.3
KRQR-FM 8.3 to 7.9
KMXI-FM 4.5 to 6.2, Probably because they flipped to All Christmas this year (back in November) Something they didn't do last year from what I understand
KPAY-AM 6.6 to 5.8, They seem to have lost a few shares to Bold Talk 96.7 (KZAP) but not a significant loss
KCEZ-FM 5.4 to 5.4, No Change
KBQB-FM 4.5 to 4.5, No Change
KTHU-FM 4.1 to 4.1, No Change
KFMF-FM 4.1 to 3.7, KFM recently got rid of Bob and Tom Mornings, its probably all off of a satelite feed now, however maybe they're picking up some of KTHU's listeners who think that Mark and Brian talk too much
KRCX-FM 3.3 to 3.3, KRCX is Regional Mexican, serving Sacto, but licenced to Yuba City so it comes in in Chico. However Chico has its own Regional Mexican station, KHHZ 97.7. 97.7 must be jockless or something
KSFM-FM 2.5 to 3.3, KSFM continues to climb as Chico goes without a CHR, I'm sure that someone up there will see KSFM's ratings and flip something to CHR
KSTE-AM 2.9 to 3.3, I guess Chico likes Armstrong and Getty,as well as Savage in the Afternoon (He's on at night on KPAY) Maybe A&G should mention Chico every now and then
KALF-FM 2.9 to 2.9, No Change
KFBK-AM 3.3 to 2.9, I don't know why KFBK has such high ratings as it does, exept for news in the morning and afternoon, its the same as KPAY
KRER-FM 1.7 to 2.5, SportsFan 101.7 saw a rating spike with The Giants Postseason run
KGO-AM 1.2 to 2.1, With a north/south signal I'm sure KGO booms in Chico
KHHZ-FM 1.7 to 2.1, Chico's local Regional Mexican station continues to be beaten up by Sacramento's KRCX
KMJE-FM 1.7 to 2.1, Didn't 101.5 recently move farther away from Chico?
KQPT-FM 1.7 to 2.1, This station is an empty shell of its former self, its now runing of Dial Global's Hot AC feed, I say they should pick up Citadel's CHR leaning Hot AC feed, and add Ryan Seacrest in the Afternoon
KKCY-FM 1.7 to 1.7, No Change
KDND-FM 0.8 to 0.8, No Change, I think KDND's signal is pretty weak in Chico
KNBR-AM 0.8 to 0.8, Once again, with a 50Kw signal KNBR booms all the way to Redding
KZAP-FM 2.1 to 0.8, Flipped to FM Talk with Glenn Beck mornings, Mark Levin Afternoon's and an audio simulcast of CBS 12 News 6am-7am, 12p-12:30p, and 6p-7p. Maybe the format just needs some time to Take off, but so far it seems to be failing. Might be a good canidate to flip to CHR, back to Club 96.7
KEWB-FM 0.4 to 0.4, another way Chican's are geting their CHR
KKXX-AM 0.4 (First showing) Recently added an FM @ 104.5, begining to take off
KNCQ-FM 0.8 to 0.4, puts a strong signal into Chico, but is falling as KHSL continues to rise
KRXQ-FM 0.8 to 0.4, 98Rock is no match for ZRock on its home turf
KSEG-FM 0.4 to 0.4, no change
KSHA-FM 0.4 to 0.4, no change

I'll post my thoughts on The Redding Ratings soon, no time right now

I know the PD for ZROCK who took them up the ratings left and a new PD is there for this book. Little bit of a slip two book average but will be bigger one book breakdown drop and especially next combined book drop off. 98 rock only comes in decent in southern part of metro-oroville, durham, and especially paradise(most sac stations come in good). I would expect 98 rock to do better next book but still very little penetration into market. Of course it all depends on where the books land by zipcode and what people write down they think they actually listened to for how long.

Like most radio today the chico market is a mere shadow of itself. staff cuts and doubling up Full timers that are left on other stations. Creative special radio no. Just get through it and don't get fired. Yawn!

Till the revenue comes back the only way to look profitable and have cash flow is to reduce costs. Syndicated/satellite fed/ or vt from another nearby cluster. Even happening in bigger markets.

there certainly is an audience for a chr or top 40 or a better hot ac but to pull one off it needs good staffing who can work the phones and stunt the streets. Onlly company who could pull it off is Results and that isn't going to happen due to $$. Mapleton is circling the drain. Deer Creek is too much "family" and doesn't have much of a clue but results has dave shakes.

Build it and people will come. Problem is it's survival time not expansion.

The inclusion of sac stations is once again mainly paradise, oroville, but ksfm gets a bit into chico. Kewb is a real minimal signal as it is in chico unless moved to results' paskenta transmitter site.

These ratings have to be from Oroville and Paradise, because in Chico 107.9 The End is blocked out by 107.5 The Point's Chico Translator

Mapleton is to stupid to flip 96.7 back to top 40, mapleton must be the worst small radio company ever

I agree, Mapleton is a terible company, I hope that there Chico Cluster is sold soon.

That being said however, I think Results is one of the best small market radio groups ever
