Family, fans rally around Aretha Franklin

The good Lord wanted that voice in heaven, and He just didn't want to wait anymore.

This breaks my heart. What an amazing voice, an amazing lady, respect for everyone that was influenced by her and loved her songs (like me!) RIP and condolences to family and friends.

Pancreatic cancer! That's what got Kirsten Lindquist too (former CNN Newsbabe). Its very fast from diagnosis to death. Some people have survived pancreatic cancer though.

Plus we knew George Michael was waiting.

The automated oldies station where I live did one thing and it might not have even been related. There was one station ID with "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Freeway of Love" as examples of where they would take us.

I wasn't sure if America's Best Music would acknowledge her since I'm not aware of any songs they play of hers. But the recorded female voice just had some nice things to say about her and what she accomplished, and clips from "Respect", "Think" and "A Natural Woman" and maybe others were played. That last one might be in their playlist, but I was thinking they did a different version.

I heard a version of "I Say a Little Prayer" (on America's Best Music) I never heard anywhere before but it sounded like it could be her, followed by that female voice talking about how great Aretha was, and those clips.

ABC postponed the episode of "The Gong Show" that should have aired Thursday. My listings didn't show a change so I ended up recording a special on the life of Aretha Franklin. I didn't watch. I can read all about her elsewhere.

BET and BET HER carried Aretha Franklin's service live and commercial free. It started at 11AM Eastern went until 6:56PM Eastern. At 6:56PM the movie "Beauty Shop" began 4 mins early. When I went for my walk at 5:40PM and they were discussing the funeral on hip-hop station HOT 93.7 They were saying at that point the funeral was around three hours behind schedule. Both BET Networks had the service scheduled until 2PM with the main BET station having "The Fresh Prince" scheduled until 4:33 and the movie "White Chicks" scheduled until 7.
