Family Fued and TPIR

This sort of goes along with the thread I started about all time favorite game shows.

1. Was Richard Dawson the original host of Family Fued? How many years was he the host for?

2. Has there been any other hosts of Family Fued besides Dawson,Combs, Anderson and Karn?

3. Should Bob Barker ever decided to step down as host of TPIR who would be a good replacement host?

1. Richard Dawson was INDEED the original host of the original version Feud from 1976-1985 (9 years). He also came back to host the show in 1994-1995 after Ray Combs (1988-1994)was fired. Dawson hosted the Feud for a total of 10 years.

2. No.

3. I can think of many people (those who have hosted in the past, or sitcom actors who I think would be great):
Marc Summers
Tom Bergeron
Todd Newton
Michael Burger (remember Match Game 98?)
Mike O'Malley (Yes, Dear is being cancelled this season; let's bring him back as a game show host).
Richard Karn
Donny Osmond
Perhaps Kevin James, Gary Valentine, or Victor Williams (you don't see too many black game show hosts besides Nipsey Russell) could also be a candidate...after King of Queens goes off the air, one of them could host.
Arrested Development's Jason Bateman (formerly of Silver Spoons, It's Your Move, and Valerie/The Hogan Family) could be a great game show host if he has trouble in the sitcom world again.
Pat Sajak (if he'd be interested in a daytime gig again)
Bryan Cranston (Hal on "Malcolm in the Middle")
Perhaps bring Bob Eubanks, Wink Martindale, Peter Marshall, or Bob Goen back to the mike.
Jimmy Kimmel (from his host-experience co-hosting with Ben Stein)
Topher Grace from "That 70's Show" (without the cheesy 70's hair)
Neil Patrick Harris or Josh Radnor (from "How I Met Your Mother")
Mark Addy from "Still Standing"
George Gray (Extreme Gong, Weakest Link)
Jon Cryer (Pretty in Pink, Two and a half Men)
Perhaps a female host (Vicki Lawrence or Betty White)

I heard something on Entertainment Tonight of some sort of argument between Bob Barker and Betty White(I don't watch ET,only heard a preview about it). And if I'm not mistaken Betty White is the same age as Bob Barker,so that would be a very huge long shot there. Vicki Lawrence might be the better choice since she is younger(57) and has hosted Win Lose or Draw and appeared on game shows(most notably $25,000 Pyramid)

Vote 1: Todd Newton. Saw him do the Price live stage show, and he has a great rapport with players and a mastery of the games.

Vote 2: TPIR 1994's Doug Davidson. Also high energy, clearly related to contestants well, and knew the games.

No, he doesn't own it, but he's an executive producer with a big say in what goes on.

The question is, after all these years, would the audience accept a different host when Bob has had enough? I think CBS will have to cancel TPIR once Bob goes.<P ID="signature">______________

Personally, I think when Bob steps down, or becomes no longer able to host the show, the show should probably go away. While CBS may try to continue the show with a new host, I don't think the audience will accept anyone else as host. Bob Barker and TPIR are one in the same.

This leads into another issue...if CBS cancels TPIR, and it's also believed that "Guiding Light"'s days are probably numbered, what does CBS do with those time slots? As far as I know, every CBS affiliate clears the TPIR, and all but two affiliates clear GL, with a handful of stations, primarily in the East, airing it in the morning. If one or both of those shows gets cancelled, will CBS give the time slots to the affiliates to fill locally, or will CBS try something new? Over the years, the nets (particularly NBC) have trimmed back their daytime schedules, usually giving time slots to affiliates that were already moderately to heavily pre-empted. In the case of CBS and these two shows, you're looking at time slots that have 99 to 100 percent clearances. At least in the short-run, I don't think CBS will give up...I think they will try something new (in addition to possibly expanding "The Bold and the Beautiful" to an hour), and if that doesn't work and pre-emptions start to come, then CBS will give the slot(s) back to the stations.

In my opinion, TPIR should at least TRY a different host when Bob leaves. Let Bob have a say who it is. I know he seems irreplaceable, but Bob is getting up there and he's not gonna be on there forever. Life will go on. People are just going to have to accept it when he does step down. Then if the new host doesn't work out, pull the plug and maybe air reruns in its place. I can't imagine CBS daytime without the last remaining daytime game show. May TPIR live on forever.

I think Vicki Lawrence should host the show as Momma.

Well then, How about Howie Mandel. I know it sounds crazy since he's already hosting deal or no deal, which kicks butt by the way, but if you think about it, he's funny, smart, and women seem to go nuts for him, so i ask the question, "DEAL OR NO DEAL?"

Remember, people did accept Bob stepping in on Truth or Consequences. Who knows...maybe they will, maybe they won't.

I'd hate to see that slot turned over to yet more inane talk, or the hodge podge of filler if it goes back to the affiliates.

NO DEAL!
NBC has a no compete clause in place.
Howie can not work on the set of ANY CBS show for the next year (minimum) starting from the day he is no longer with NBC, and who knows when that will be?
If Deal or no deal happens to die down, (hopefuly not for a while!)
for all we know, NBC may even have another gameshow in place for him...?

Yeah, and to make things even better...Dorothy Lyman, Beverly Archer, Carol Burnett and Betty White as the models (in their "Mama's Family" characters).

I thought of four other suggestions...
Anthony Clark ("Yes Dear"; notice how I'm including CBS sitcom stars?)
Tom Kennedy (only if he is willing to come out of retirement)
Jim Perry (see above)
and what's Bill Rafferty up to these days?

In the past year or so Steve Beverly suggested on www.tvgameshows.net that a new host should be phased in by having them host one or two days a week until Bob Barker retires, similar to what was done with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. His first choice for the new host was Todd Newton.
