"Family Guy" Spoofs WHTT!

In a scene from tonight's episode, Chris and a popular girl from school are sitting in her car. Chris turns on the radio and the announcer says "WHTT... playing the greatest rock and roll of all time!" Chris says "I hate radio stations that don't keep promises..." Meanwhile, the fictional WHTT, out of the aforementioned liner, the station plays "We Built This City" by Starship. To which Chris says, "See what I mean?"

LOL! I'm sure the episode will be up on Hulu in due time. It's halfway through the second segment.

Too bad they don't play "We Built This City", or "The Greatest Rock & Roll of All Time" anymore.

They already beat "We Built This City" into the ground in their previous incarnation as Hot 104 (WNYS). Of course it was a current hit at the time....

What CHR and even AOR station at the time didn't? "The city that never sleeps, the city by the bay..."

I remember playing We Built This City at WNYS. I don't think it was "Hot 104" yet, but the timing was close.

Anyway, we had a cut where the announcer in the middle of the song was deleted, and one morning I opened the mic and uttered "what's your favorite radio station?..the Hot-Rockin' 104 WNYS". One day I'll find it in the aircheck basement tapes.

Of course, I always liked the version that Starship cut for WCAU-FM (Hot Hits) in Philadelphia...

"we built Philly on rock and roll...double u...ceee...aaa...you....F M"

That was one of the most (if not the most) customized tunes ever. Market by market...some station had their version. (yes, most were production room knock offs, of course). One other similar situation was the hot smash hit from 1976- Convoy. Call letter editing run wild.
