FamilyNet Fall Programming

Starting next Monday, 10/3, FamilyNet has some classics coming back to the lineup:

4pm - Mr. Belvedere
4:30pm - Mary Tyler Moore show
5pm - Bob Newhart Show
5:30pm - Newhart
6pm - Remington Steel

All these shows repeat again starting in the 9pm hour.

I remember when WEDE-CA 34 Arlington Heights/WJYS 62.2 Hammond, IN carried Family Net. When it was sold, they dropped all their affiliates, & WEDE-CA had to create a lineup of programs from scratch. They used to only program locally 3 hours a day, due to the programs FamilyNet had in the 3 hour block, Weigel Broadcasting had the rights to the shows, & WEDE-CA had to show alternate programming. I know if FamilyNet were still available OTA in the Chicago market, Marry Tyler Moore & Bob Newhart would definitely have to be blacked out, due to Weigel having the rights to those shows. I don't know about Newhart (Weigel has shown this program on the old Chicago MeTV in the past, & Mr Belvedere was either shown on the old Chicago MeTV, or WCIU). I don't believe Weigel ever showed Remington Steel (I could be wrong, if they did, it was on MeToo).

What is Familynet?

It's a cable network that carries family-oriented programming.

http://www.familynet.com/

It's carried on Verizon Fios channel 242. Not sure about other carriers.

They also still have a few OTA affiliates, mostly low power, but now-defunct station KTFL Flagstaff AZ was a full-power affiliate prior to 2006 and today, FN claims the full-power VTN stations in Pine Bluff/Little Rock, Hot Springs and Jonesboro AR as affiliates.

From what I was able to find on the web, Family Net is the sister network of ALN, and appears to be picking up a lot of ALN's old programming. Meanwhile when I looked for ALN's website, it gots to http://www.youtoo.com, which apparently has replaced ALN. I'm surprised that nothing has been said about this on this board before now.

I just discovered this network two nights ago on my local Easter Maine TimeWarner Cable system, up in the Digital Tier (135 I think)
Glad to see the OLD Bob Newharts (70sversion) and Mary Tyler Moore. It must have just been added within the past couple of weeks.

Living in Southeastern AR I can give some details. VTN (KVTN, KVTJ, KVTH) only does religious programming (and a handful of infomercials). The station does carry some FamilyNet programming but its only selected religious programming and out of pattern. VTN even covers up the FN logo bug with its own, ala CTV, Global in Canada and Cuban TV does with its pirated fare from the US.

There used to be a LPTV station in Pine Bluff AR KIPB-LP channel 65 that used to carry most of FN's network schedule including old shows and movies but has been off the air since 2005.

I had a feeling that was the case. A lot of these minor networks engage in a measure of puffery by claiming stations as affiliates, even though the station may carry only one program, and out-of-pattern.
