FamilyNet/Rural TV Questions

I've noticed in previews for the new year that FamilyNet/Rural TV has acquired WKRP in Cincinatti and Hee Haw to their lineups but from the schedules they don't seem to be showing up anywhere at this point.

I was wondering if Family Net/Rural TV will be starting Hee Haw from the first show in 1969 or will they be repeating RFD-TV's coverage from Sunday and show episodes from where they are at now in 1974. And has FN/Rural TV have more shows that they acquired?

It's odd that Family Net would have WKRP since that show is already on Antenna TV. Unless Antenna doesn't have exclusive rights to it...

And Cincinnati is also not exactly what would one would call "Rural" America either.....

Cheers & 73 :D

I'm kind of surprised that Sitcoms Online has hasn't had any news on their blog about Rural TV becoming Family Net on January 1st or the fact that there are new shows coming there like The Saint, Remington Steele and WKRP In Cincinnati since WKRP is practically the most talked about show on Sitcoms Online besides Barney Miller and Three's Company. I can't believe that there hasn't been any news about it.

Is Rural TV the same as RTV?

I recently noticed "The Real McCoys" in my listings and when I taped it for the first time, I kept seeing an RTV logo. It was also pointed out that although I am watching the main, religious, channel, other RTV programming is on .2.

Both Rural TV (soon to be FamilyNet) and RTV are entirely different channels.

The newly merged FamilyNet/RFD-TV cuts back significantly on the classic shows. Only 3 in the daytime hours that are spread out:

Sue Thomas F.B. Eye @2pm
The Saint @ 4pm
Remington Steele @ 6pm

The Prime-Time Classic TV Block looks like this:

8pm WKRP
8:30 Mary Tyler Moore
9pm Bob Newheart Show
9:30pm Newheart
10pm Highway to Heaven

The rest of the day consists of original programming from both networks

(All times posted above are Eastern People Time)

A couple of things I've noticed this morning according to the program listings.

1. They aren't showing the pilot episode of WKRP In Cincinatti where Andy first appears at the station and meets everyone and Johnny Fever plays a record of The Hallelujah Tabernacle Choir singing Paul Anka's "You're Having My Baby". Instead they are showing the episode "Hoodlum Rock" from 1978. I just wonder if they are showing the episodes in production order or just aren't going to show the pilot.

2. The country music block at 11:00 PM Eastern/10:00 PM Central is totally gone. In its place is "The Angus Report". I know that there are a lot of farmers but to non-farmers who would watch.

It looks like Mr. Belvedere is out on FamilyNet/Rural TV.

If they could add Mama's Family or Alice, then I can watch the network more often!

If FamilyNet ever returns to the airwaves in Chicagoland OTA (over the air), the primetime block would most likely be pre-empted, due to Weigel Broadcasting having the rights to Mary Tyler Moore, & Bob Newhart (they don't carry Newhart at this time), & WMAQ-TV & Cozi TV has Highway To Heaven. I'm not sure if WGN-TV & Antenna TV still carrying WKRP in Cincinnati or not. I remember when FamilyNet was on WEDE-CA 34 Arlington Heights, IL & simulcasting on WJYS 62.2 Hammond, IN, they had to pre-empt My Three Sons & 2 other programs, because Weigel Broadcasting's MeTV (when MeTV was just in Chicago & comedy only) had the rights to the programs. When WEDE-CA had to pre-empt the 3 hour block of classic sitcoms, they aired their own religious programming (usually locally produced religious programming). When FamilyNet was sold, WEDE-CA lost their affiliation, & had to program their station themselves.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that. But they've been running the same episodes over and over for so long that it's probably a good thing the show is off the schedule.

Now I heard that Mr. Belvedere will air weekday mornings (I think at 7:30am). You know that FamilyNet/Rural TV will drop it soon.

Well, that's good. So hopefully the McCoys will continue. It's good family values TV. Yesterday they scammed a scammer and turned one of his employees around with their faith and their kindness.

It looks like that FamilyNet/Rural TV is playing skipping around with WKRP In Cincinnati as tomorrow's episode will be from 1979. If they're skipping around to episodes with no music involved then why did they acquire WKRP in the first place?

Anyways, for those like me who have WKRP on VHS (the ones that MTM put out in the late 1980's along with episodes of Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Lou Grant, The White Shadow, Rhoda, Phyllis, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere) with the original music intact and unedited, consider yourselves and myself lucky.

The only good music on "WKRP" was played back before Andy and Venus showed up.

Okay, despite Andy's claim, Venus too had good music while he talked.

Does anybody know why the prints on a lot of these shows look so bad? Bob Newhart looks a lot better to me on Hallmark and Me-TV. It looked better on TV Land back in the early 2000s. Newhart looks bad too but I don't have any recent airings to compare it with.

This network has some of the corniest ads I've ever seen.

From what I've seen of The Mary Tyler Moore Show thus far, they are using remastered tapes because they're better than the ones that were originally were sent out to syndicated reruns in the fall of 1977 and definitely better than what was shown on Nick at Nite 20 years ago. They even have the 20th Century Fox logo after the MTM logo where the cat meows. On the other hand for The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, they are remastered but not in the same shape that MTM is in but better than what the episodes were like when they first started in syndicated reruns especially Bob Newhart's 1970's show.
