FanDuel RSNs may shut down

If they can't be sold to DAZN, that would leave 30 MLB, NHL and NBA franchises stuck holding their own TV rights.

Woah I remember some of the Fanduel/Bally RSN affiliates were at one point part of SportsChannel and Fox Sports Net Regional in their histories before they became the way they are now. Yes its about protecting TV apps as mentioned in other places.

This is not like the way NBC is responding to their RSN affiliates where some of their local rights to MLB and NBA games got renewed as national TV rights for Peacock.

NBC shut down their RSN? I thought NBC Sports Chicago, NBC Sports Northwest and NBC Sports Washington DC were sold to other entities and NBC Sports Net (National Edition) did shut down all as part of the a move to boost viewers to Peacock.

Note NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California still exist as we head to 2026.

NBC Sports Boston is still going, with the Celtics pretty much its only big-league attraction. I wonder how long that deal runs for, as the rest of the programming is talk-and-old-games crud.

Chicago and Northwest shut down after losing all their rights. DC was sold to the Washington Nationals owner. I did not realize that Bay Area and Boston still existed.

Still, there were no rights that were transferred from "regional" to "national" rights.

NBC Sports Philadelphia is still going strong, airing the Phillies, 76ers and Flyers. Note another division of Comcast owns the Flyers. The Phillies are about 10 years into a 25 year deal and received an equity stake in NBCSP as part of this current contract.

I'm not sure anyone will buy it as a business concern. They may buy the assets in liquidation, which I think is the next step. MLB Teams will not get anywhere the revenue they were getting when cable revenue was peaking.

Will the original FanDuel service -- sports betting -- continue if the FanDuel RSNs go under? How about FanDuel's FAST channel, which shows a variety of sports programming, much of it wagering-oriented (horse racing, jai alai, European basketball, etc.)?

FanDuel Sports Network is a naming rights deal that should not affect the operation of FanDuel's actual businesses.
