Fantastic word game

Offer us a penny for them and they might luck out with a buy-one-get-one-free promotion.

Also, as we in the retail industry call it, Buy One Get One or BOGO as most prefer.
 
A buy one-get-one-free promotion is available if you just look for the blue light at your local K-Mart.

In my city we still have one K-Mart left, we used to have six in the Metro Fresno/Clovis area, now we have 8 Targets and 6 Wal-marts.
 
At your local K-Mart in Southington, CT, you might find the owner of Illusions cashing in on bargains for bulk bottles of Poland Spring.
 
Poland Spring will be used to water board DToTheJ for failing to realize that Kenny used the wrong opening clue for his contribution, completely ignoring the previous post by scanman1.

Kenny, please report to WMC's corner office as soon as possible (or asap as some prefer).
 
Scanman1 gave us the ending clue of 'two pairs' which Kenny was supposed to lead off with but Kenny failed to negotiate the curve.

The curve in the road where we lived when my kids were little was nicknamed Dead Man's Curve although to the best of my knowledge no one ever died there so it was probably just an urban legend.
 
An urban legend holds that the phrase "bogo" is an abbreviation used specifically in the retail industry to describe "buy-one-get-one [free]" sales, but in reality it hasn't always been.

[size=8pt]Matter of fact, it actually originated in motocross as a term used for the jump they now call "Superman". The story I'd always heard is that it was a contraction of "bogus", because apparently some people early on thought jumping off a dirt bike and re-mounting in mid-air was "unreal" or something. The phrase "Superman" had been in use since probably the early '90s or so, but when the retail sector misappropriated "bogo" it as a term for "added value" sales in the mid-2000s, it became INSTANTLY uncool and the name "Superman" stuck--although it is possible to sometimes hear a few "old-skool" riders throwing the older phrase around at the track. (I should know; I've done it enough times!)

And the part they now call the "rhythm section"? "Bugaloos"! Not sure how or when that phrase died out, but I can't help imagining the surname "Krofft" might come up at some point in the discussion....
 
Since its inception, The Fantastic Word Game (the FWG or TFWG as others may prefer) has grown by leaps and bounds, and has had its regular contributers, as well as individuals who have come and gone.

And after all this time, I'm finally a bolded ending clue! How cool is that! 8)
 
Individuals who have come and gone include some we fondly remember and miss (Anyacat) and others that we'd like to completely forget.

I won't mention any names but the old timers around here know to whom I refer.
 
The NBA is well underway while the NHL has yet to start but, more importantly, spring training is right around the corner.

dm is of course referring to that "Jeopardy" guy whose name we won't mention. But there are others who we are very fond of even if they never show their faces here anymore like the lovely andreajesus; our former Linguistics Czar, raptus regalitur, who popped in very briefly a couple of weeks ago for the first time in, what was it, a year and a half; and Stuart, who was from quad's neck of the woods. Maybe we should have quad some time this coming weekend looking for Stuart.
 
Spring training is right around the corner, but the more millions I hear they all make, and the fewer players whose names I recognize because I don't watch 24/7 coverage like I used to, and because most of them seem to not want to play but every three or four days, the less I can identify with any of the participants, so I'll probably just pull for the Pirates and the Orioles.
 
Problem for me because I take performance enhancing drugs all the time as it's such a big job as Game Czar keeping all of you in line.
