Fantastic word game

A lot of things about a lot of stuff are presented as clues on Jeopardy!, the television game show that requires contestants to give their response in the form of a question.

'Handsome' isn't the first word that comes to my mind when I think of you, CT, but I'm definitely an admirer of your linguistic abilities.

However, shouldn't that read 'damned handsome'?

Your linguistic abilities, O Master Of The English Language (MOTEL as nobody prefers), are what allow you to dot your i's and cross your t's.

Dot your i's and cross your t's because at the end of the day, moving forward, we want to do what we can with what we have.

Hey hey hey! It's Friday and the weekend is here. Join us tomorrow night at the new Illusions. Why? Because we have another fantastic 80s Rockfest featuring everyone's favorite piece of machinery, the Denny's-sponsored, permanently-guarded mechanical bull, plus your favorite tunes all night long. Have a great weekend!!

"What we can with what we have" works much better at the end of a sentence than at the beginning, and I sure do wish some game participants would take a little time to consider their ending clues' suitability for continued game play before hitting that "Post reply" button.

Button-pushing cowboys, according to The Lovely Olivia Newton-John (TLON-J as some prefer), always want to play B-17.

Now, some comments and a question for the MOTEL (Master Of The English Language):

1. That ending clue ... I say it gets a demerit.
2. I correctly italicized parts of my ending clue, which were changed. That deserves a demerit.
3. Adverbs ending in
-ly are not hyphenated with the next word. That was in the comments, so should it get just half a demerit?

4. If I want to italicize something inside of already-italicized text, is it correct to un-italicize it?
Examples:

I watch Star Trek every day.
I watch
Star Trek
every day.

The reason for all this is that I have a few demerits floating around, and I really want to get rid of them. Better than just throwing them out, I'd rather let someone else enjoy (?) them.
😀

B-17 bomber was recently involved in a mid-air near-miss collision with a passenger plane.

CT, we are a writing/sentence game. Therefore, no matter how much we might hate a specific ending clue, we still use it to the best of our ability for our new contribution. To that end, I thought long and hard about my 'what we can with what we have' clue before posting and decided to go with it. I thought maybe someone could use it to come up with something using more overused phrases but, at the end of the day, that did not happen. ;)

Ed, I did not notice that the i and t were italicized. Had I copied and pasted (which I obviously did not do), there wouldn't be a problem but I didn't. It was not changed on purpose. Comments/dialogue are not part of CT's jurisdiction. Only the game play is. Having said that, I have in fact used 'permanently-guarded' in many game play contributions because 'Denny's-sponsored, permanently-guarded' is my permanent description of the bull. CT has never commented on that either positively or negatively. CT can comment on italicizing or not within italicizing.

If those extra demerits are becoming too fulfilling for you, send them over to me. :p

A passenger plane usually takes off and lands into the wind.

Maybe that post was a bit intense, but it was all meant to be in fun. :) No offense intended. Blame it on the gummies. I've made my share of mistakes too ... made a good one this morning by leaving out a word.

Trees and pollen were a big allergy problem for me when I was a young lad.

Also, cat hair, dog hair, cigarette smoke, grass. Ever had one of those allergy scratch tests? Had one around the age of 16 or so. To some degree, I was allergic to every single thing tested on me. Had allergy shots for several years after that.

A young lad (or even an older one) can sometimes say and do very stupid things.

One of them came over to me and said, "I've seen your contributions to The Fantastic Word Game (TFWG as all should prefer)."

Your contributions to The Fantastic Word Game (TFWG as all should prefer) have always been excellent and well-written which has allowed this thread to continue as the longest sentence writing game on the interwebs.

Years from now, historians will marvel as they add up the millions and millions of contributions to the Fantastic Word Game (TFWG as 99 and 44/100% prefer).

Millions and millions of contributions to the Fantastic Word Game (TFWG as 99 and 44/100% prefer) will deal with topics that those historians of the future will find difficult to impossible to comprehend.

To comprehend this entire thread, one must return to the beginning to review 2,582 pages and 51,640 contributions.

I would suggest a holiday weekend to do that.
