Fantastic word game

Coming this fall to a cable channel in your market will be some crappy, low-budget show that is so poorly made, it will make you want to cancel your subscription, and instead set up a free-to-air QAM receiver.

Honestly. I have never been able to figure out what the allure to these "pay TV" services has been in recent years. I mean, why would anyone consciously *want* to pay to watch TV in the first place? Did you know that if you just took a cable-ready TV or VCR and hooked it into the cable line, you'll get all your cable channels, free and unscrambled? (At least, that appplies to the programmes that *are* unscrambled, of course.) That's how it was here for years with the local NTSC-based system. It's probably different now with QAM; I haven't looked up Silicondust in quite a while and I don't have access to a cable line right now, so I can't scan Comca$t and find out.

I think people merely pay for TV out of conformity, because they've gotten desensitised to throwing away $X.YZ/month just to watch TV. And for satellite: look at how many different programmes are available free-to-air via DVB-S that few people amongst the general public even seem to be aware of! [http://lyngsat.com/america.htm]

If more people knew about such methods--which, admittedly, has been declining amongst the general public since these vulgar DBS "pay satellite" systems started popping up in the early 1990s--certainly they would have a higher uptake.

End of rant.....

A free-to-air QAM receiver sounds like a good idea, as does the FTA satellite thing, and if it's still around in a year, I'm gonna look harder at that hot liquid mess I first heard about from Chuck Harder.

Chuck Harder sounds like a nice guy and maybe you should elect him temporary Game Czar but, then again, since Stuart isn't a member of the TFWG Hierarchy, he has no authority to call a meeting about anything (suggest a meeting, maybe, but not call one) and, since it's pretty obvious that he still can't construct a proper sentence (which Raptus appropriately called him on), I'd say he needs to back down and stop trying to take authority.

Remember SKenJenningsSummers?? He tried to do that and look where he ended up. He ended up THERE and no one ever heard from him again. I don't think Stuart wants to end up THERE.

As I mentioned, I'll be away next week resting so you, Stuart, can try to overtake the game next week if you wish although I dare say that raptus, quad, and dmargalotti might have a few things to say about that.

There seems to be some concern from WMC that Stuart is trying to usurp his authority and have him removed from his position of power but I would like to believe that Stuart is acting out of sincere and genuine concern.

You don't sell yourself short over there, Stuart, because I know that if we needed you to, you could put a person's body into the ground so it wouldn't be found for a long time.

Not that the TFWG needs those services very often, but if the need comes up, we'd trust you. But then again, we might have to rub you out if you go canary on us. ;)

A long time is yet to come before we get to Page 1000 and I, for one, grow increasingly excited by the day.

Or maybe I'm just happy to see you.

Working the phones for a radio station request line must be a very stressful job.

I am sorry if "line" was not the correct term to use. Please remember radio is my hobby (along with sentence structure) not my job. I leave that up to all of you, the radio professionals of our great country.

Anyone would have imagined, when arriving in the band camp parking garage that Olivia and John were playing records, as their favorite songs have been playing nonstop, every time we get off the elevator to go to the car, or whenever we get out of the car to go inside.

Shrimp idea:

You will need about a pound of large shrimp - uncooked and without shells
Butter
Lemon juice
A few cloves of garlic (to taste)
White cooking wine to taste
Parsley sprigs
Grated Romano Cheese (or whatever kind you like)
Broccoli florets (okay, you may use fresh frozen broccoli)

Over low-medium heat saute shrimp in stainless steel skillet with a generous amount of garlic and butter until shrimp are pink and opaque. Add just a few drops of lemon juice, just a tad of white cooking wine and sprinkled cheese. While you are preparing your shrimp, which is mainly just shrimp scampi, have your broccoli washed and in a steamer. The whole shrimp and sauce prep should take about ten minutes, but make sure to have the broccoli in the steamer when you start, so that it will be finished at about the same time as the sauce. If you want you can put the sauce over pasta or just have the shrimp in the sauce, with steamed broccoli florets around the rim of the plate. If you don't want to deal with the broccoli florets just get a box of fresh frozen broccoli. I don't think it will kill you to have fresh frozen veggies. To make it pretty place some parsley sprigs with lemon wedges (since you used one slice for your juice anyway). Also good with thin orange slices with the parsley placed on top. Remember, presentation is 90% of the deal.

And there you have every practical cook's idea of how to make dinner to taste, without all the precise measurements that are useless most of the time anyway, unless you are a total idjet who throws the whole wedge of cheese into the skillet. Not bad with garlic bread either.

Bon apetito :-* :-*
