The Olivia Newton-John Movie Channel tends to be heavy on the repeats, but every time you watch an Olivia Newton-John movie, you learn something new and see it and life in a different way.

A different way home that requires you to travel along lonely, unmarked roads that meander through a creepy forest is something you might want to avoid on a dark and stormy night.

On a dark and stormy night, if you're in the woods near band camp, you can much more clearly hear the cries of the young.

The young mother waved goodbye to her son as he headed through the band camp gates for his first weekend away from home.

His first weekend away from home was exceedingly pleasant for him, but could not compare to the joy he expressed when calling home, sending the best post cards and, finally, arriving home with arm loads of fun souvenir baubles.

Fun souvenir baubles in Japan include regional trinkets called meibutsu and sweets, candies, and other edibles called omiyage.

...And the Japanese language makes its proud debut in TFWG.

Omiyage sounds like it could be fun.

The Karate Kid was instructed in proper discipline of the martial arts not by omiyagi, but by Mr. Miyagi, which might seem to be very close, but is really quite different, given that one is hips on, hips off, while the other is wax on, wax off.

Wax on, wax off proved to be useful training for young Daniel-son even though at the time he couldn't understand why Mr. Miyagi had him doing all those crappy chores.

All those crappy chores around the library are being done by volunteer bandcampers in exchange for free textbooks and free WiFi.

Free textbooks and free WiFi are only available for use on the premises and the volunteerism is really in exchange for getting to help all of those pretty librarians we hired.

Those pretty librarians we hired definitely go a long way towards promoting the various facets reading and writing.

I'll be setting up a small second office in the library across the hall from the conference room.

Reading and writing just aren't the same without their old friend arithmetic.

Arithmetic is the brutal taskmaster of my past learning.

Learning your ABCs is almost as hard as learning to tie your shoes.

Tie your shoes before leaving the house and while you're at it, make sure your zipper is all the way up too so you won't have to hear snarky comments such as "hey, your garage door is open".

"Hey, your garage door is open", might be a reminder that a thief lurks to see whether you are home, but then again it could be a distraction by some other form of fraud who figures you'll look in that direction, thus keeping you otherwise busy.

Keeping you otherwise busy is our goal at band camp because we find that at the end of the day, if the youngsters are completely worn out and exhausted, they are less likely to engage in hijinks, pranks, and shenanigans after dark.

Hijinks, pranks, and shenanigans after dark simply do not have a place at our band camp, after a day of skating on the pond and igloo construction complete with outer fortress walls specially equipped with catapults for the big snowball battle after naptime.
