On the blackboard is a circle into which you place your nose when you are caught chewing gum in class.

Right about now the kiddies are scratching their heads and trying to figure out the term "blackboard", but enough about dating ourselves. Then again, we're nice enough, and they do say that two heads are better than one.

Chewing gum in class wouldn't really be a problem if kids stopped leaving their chewed gum stuck to the underside of desks and chairs.

Desks and chairs do remind me of my school days, however, I do not remember writing on this "blackboard" thing as you made a reference to it.

As you made a reference to it, a blackboard is something that the professor writes on with chalk.

What did they use in your days, Stuart? Stone and chisel?

Chalk can also be found in pool halls, being applied to the ends of cues, and at murder scenes, showing the position of the body.
