Apparently, the loneliness of being without a date for Valentine's day was enough to overide the memory of last year's public humiliation. If you recall, about this time in 2008, the Chris Vernon show tried to hook up his producer (Jon Roser) with a hottie on February 14. Three attractive young ladies were selected. Their pics were posted on their web site and listeners voted for a winner. In successive order, all three ended up bailing on him, and Roser went on the station paid for date all alone.

You would think that being rejected thrice for a radio station sponsored Valentine's contest would be enough embarrassment for one lifetime. But no, "A Single Roser 2" was announced on 730 Fox Sports just the other day. This time they are trying to run the contest a little more "under the radar" just in case lightening strikes twice. At least this time they were bright enough not to post Roser's picture.

Dudes,
It would seem to me, that the inherent problem (besides the total number of listeners) might be that they are trying to get a DUDE a date on a station whose sports format is appealing mostly to DUDES.
Even those DUDES that might be interested in DUDES will be a small percentage of the earlier mentioned small audience of mostly DUDES.
IS this making and sense, dude?
;D

Scroll down to the bottom right corner (splashcast) and go to segment 5 (part 1) and segment 6 (part 2) of the February 10 show. Venus, Nicole, and Tara vie of the heart of the producer of a sports station with a weak signal.

The answers they give tell you a lot about the young ladies of today.

First question:
Describe the perfect guy – they all said looks, one said money, and one said can put his foot down.

Interesting.

And in conclusion...

Friday (02/13/09) was the last day of "A Single Roser 2"

The five day interview process ended with questions from Verno, Roser, and listeners. At 5 pm, Roser had to make his final decision. Keep in mind that last year all 3 girls rejected him, one after the other, and he was humiliated in front of an audience of dozens.

Roser read a prepared statement where he thanked the sponsors and encouraged listeners to visit them. Then he mentioned each girl by name and what he liked about them. He wrapped it up by stating that none of them were good enough for him and that he would continue to try to get a date on his own. A strategy that has kept him dateless for months at a time. So, after two years of having a radio contest to get him a date for Valentine’s Day, Roser is still all alone. His mom called the show later and said she was embarrassed. How do you come back from that? Man, what a loser.

The current fantasy at 730 is that they will actually show up in the winter book.

Sports talk in this market is a total joke. Three stations that collectively can't muster a 2 share.

WHBQ always see-saws around a one share. In the current trend, 680 and 730 don't even show up. 680 has perhaps the best AM signal in the market, and a .3 (or less) is all they have to show for it. If you have a signal like 680 and you are getting beat by Thaddeus Matthews, it might be time to consider that Mexican lease.
