Far-away affiliates of team broadcasts

Add WING AM in Dayton. Now that one for a Steeler affiliate is a little interesting.

Dayton really isn't that far from Pittsburgh, so it's close enough for me to justify having an affiliate there. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Colts have a Dayton affiliate since Indianapolis isn't too far as well.

Dayton and Columbus are probably like my hometown. The fan base here gravitates towards the Saints, but we also have Cowboys, Falcons and Giants games. We used to get the Titans, but the station that carried them went silent earlier this summer.

WTDA 103.9 here in Columbus, Ohio carries Pittsburgh Steeler games....even though we are in the middle of Browns and Bengals country....cool for me, since I am a Steeler fan...

Columbus isn't that far from Pittsburgh (200 miles, if that much?), so I can justify WTDA playing the Steelers. In fact, with the capital city being within close range of Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Cincinnati, I wondered which team was the most popular there.

Columbus is far and away a Browns town ... always has been. Had the Bengals been worth anything in the years the Browns were gone, things might be different. In any case, Browns and Bengals rule the market with pockets of Steelers fans. By no means are the Steelers a local team, but because of their rivalries with the Ohio teams everyone has some interest in how they fare.
I don't get Dayton having a Steelers affiliate at all. Dayton is a huge Bengals town, followed by the Browns in a distant second. I have never gotten the impression anyone cares about the Steelers in Dayton other than to loathe them.

To this day, on bye weeks or in the (very, very remote) case of a Monday night game, WTAM - co-flagship for the current Browns expansion team, along with WMMS-FM - will offer an occasional Steelers game.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Browns had three Monday night games last year alone, following the resurgence of one Derek Anderson (who may once again be under center soon enough, now that Brady Quinn is stinkin' up the joint)...
