Farewell Ken Schram....

3's a crowd at KOMO.
First Kathi Goertzen dies, then Bryan Johnson retires, and now Ken Schram has been axed from KOMO. VERY SAD!! :'(

-crainbebo

Schram says he can only guess as to why his career at KOMO is over after working in positions ranging from general assignment reporter, editorial writer and host of the public-affairs show, "Town Meeting."

"I've heard they're looking at reducing the number of full-time employees they carry on the books," he says.

Be ironic if KOMO wants to make him a freelancer to avoid paying for his obamacare mandated health care.

The ObamaCare issue is hitting radio all over the market(s). Bonneville already told p/t'ers not to expect to work any hours over 30 per week, period.

Bottom line in Fisherland is no matter WHAT choices they may want to do with the stations, acquisitions and so forth....there is a "Wall Street" type fund manager who nags the company about every little move they make. They had a cash windfall from selling Fisher Plaza...and it became a shareholder dividend because this fund manager demanded it was so. He's all about numbers and getting rid of as many full time head count is his (and Cheap Channel and Cumulus and .....) way of dealing with it. Lot of GREAT broadcast talent will be in the cross-fire because of dickweeds that call Wall Street home and have literally sucked the life out of broadcasting -- and industry that completley DEPENDS on the connection it can make with an audience.

Shram, as well as Johnson, had real personalities. In return we will probably get attractive talking heads. So be it.

It should be pointed out that all indications are Bryan retired, while Ken was pushed out.

I'm sure that KOMO/Fisher gave Ken the "opportunity" to retire gracefully. Unlike Bryan, Ken chose NOT to go quietly.

Ken is a great guy who knows the players in the Seattle market. I am sure Belo would love to land Ken and I hear KING 5 is looking for a chief political reporter.

KOMO in now in the uneviable position of having to re-invent themselves.

They have lost (through retirement, firings, and unfortunately, death), a number of their stars.

Not sure what the right path is at this point, but they are also facing a fiscal cliff. Hopefully, the decision makers will make the right moves and get KOMO back to where it needs to be.

Wasn't Robert Mak a chief political reporter? He pretty much was. Straightforward and reliable too. And they just FIRED him after some 20 years - SHEESH!

just to be fair...Mak wasn't fired. His show was canceled and he was offered the job of lead political reporter; but declined.

I stand corrected.
