Farewell Kix Country 97.7 WKIX After Christmas.

I've read something  today about Kix County 97.7 changing formats after christmas starting Jan 1st to  a Hot/AC format, that could be the return back to the old Double Q. I'm sure am gonna miss Donna James, Don Flowers, Jerry Allen i hope those guys will land on their feet after christmas.

Jerry,Don and the Gang are just great people.Deebea Rowe is an absolute sweetheart I had such fun there from 2002-2005..
I hope they all land on their feet..They deserve a better fate than what they are getting.. Curtis is a good place to work.As with any place there are a few jerks but overall its cool...They better never take away Vassie's office or heads will roll

Allen

This place has not been able to compete in either Raleigh/Durham, or Greenville/New Bern. I think it was a BIG mistake getting rid of Mike Farley (nothing againest Don). Allen, were you let go, or did you leave on your own?

I worked with Donna James in Raleigh at "New Country Kix 96.1" when they still had the WKIX calls, Curtis bought us and made it 96 Rock. I won't sit here and rundown Curtis Media, I will tell you that they love to make staff and format changes alot!

I wish all good luck. It's very hard to stay in this business now, I hope you have something else to do besides radio.

Kris

I heard one rumor that Q98 Jeff Davis might be the new PD for the new Hot/AC format on 97.7 after christmas.

Now since Curtis is dropping the WKIX call letters on 97.7 now what will he do with it? If i was Curtis and those guys i would put Y-102.9 oldies format on 96.9 and put the spanish programing on 102.9 102.3. I would call it Kix Classic hits The Music You Grew Up From The 60's and 70's Kix 96.

Kris,
I left on my own in July of 05 after 3 years in afternoons and doing the country classics on Sunday nights..Took a gig in Rocky Mount for a little more money.Should have stayed at Kix...

Well he did program it before, and IIRC he did a good job at it. They really do want to recreate what they had in the 90s don't they?

Will folks as of Tommorrow Nov 26 this will be Don Flowers, and Donna James last on the air. Don will be on for Jerry Allen tommorrow morning but he will not be on the air in the afternnon time 3-8. Kix will be pretty much be playing music. I'm not so sure if this will be Jerry Allens last too? I do know is they will be bringing back the old WEQR call letters once the new format beings Jan 1st on 97.7.

The WKIX call letters have been on more frequencies than, perhaps, any other call sign in the region.

1959 - mid-1970s Both 850 AM and 96.1 FM (officially WKIX-FM)

Mid-70s - 1994 850 AM only

1994 - 1998 96.1 FM

1998 - 2001 96.9 FM

2001 - 2006 102.3 FM

2006 - 2009 97.7 FM

2009 - my guess would be back to 102.3 or even 102.5. They'll park 'em somewhere.

OK, guys, gals and lurkers... the deed is done. I have been returned to listener status as of noon today. I finished my final KIX shift at 10am, then put a cherry on it by doing my last Swap Shop on WGBR. As I type this, Donna James is wrapping up her shift for the last time.

Thanks for all the words of support. It was a fun, but brief run at a neat little station. I can say without reservation, the folks at CMG East are some of the finest, most caring people I've ever worked with.

They brought me out of the mothballs with my 1990's CD/cart deck/paper log mentality and got me into the 21st century. If you ever get an opportunity to work with this terrific team, jump on it.

I wish them all the success in the world. They're now running a pretty lean staff, so they've got a tough job ahead.

As for me, to quote Judge Harry Stone of Night Court, I'm goin' to the circus!

Peace,
Don Flowers

As of this afternoon. Kix country 97.7 is now stunting right now! it sounds like a jet going off theme! It saids be lising out for the now for format Friday morning 8:00am! Rip Kix Country 97.7

I believe Jeff Davis is back in Goldsboro..He is a talented guy...He can make a station sing..Expect lots of jets, lasers and star wars sfx..He likes that..

Allen

It's nice to have the Hot AC format back in this area, especially if Jeff Davis is running it since he does a very good job at it.

Strange way to launch the station though. "Tell us what you want, we're building a new 97.7" -- IMO they should have launched out of the gate with the format, name, personalities, etc. Also hearing a LOT of commercials... those are bad when you're starting a new format and want people to sample.

Yup Q97 the first song that was played this morning was (Makes Me Wonder) By Maroon 5!

Re: WKIX Cal Letters Now On 102.3.

Almost at 12:midnight I heard the legal Id's for 102.9 WWMY Raleigh, and 102.3 WKIX Goldsboro. How long will the WKIX call letter's will stay on 102.3?
