Farewell to R-I poster Ed Beck & Notes on Dhoom FM

It appears that the Radio-Info poster Ed Beck has passed on, and so, too, has the broadcast station 89.3 Dhoom FM (the former WDDM FM, Hazlet, NJ).

The website is still up, for now, at http://www.dhoomfm.com/ - with a note thanking Ed for his service. Recent postings at the "Transactions" section of RadioAndRecords.com indicate that WDDM has been sold to a group that will plug it into a satellite dish.

I never really knew him, other than through reading his postings here, but I always thought it was nice that he was interested in having a vigorous discussion, and I applaud his efforts in non-comm radio, because I think the future of non-comm stations is finding and serving niche audiences in whatever way possible.

I also enjoy Dhoom FM's format of Desi CHR - it is definitely something different to listen to, when I tire of other options. Since the website and stream remain working for now, hopefully the station will live on - at least online. I often wondered if they had at least as many online listeners as they did on-air; it certainly seems possible, given the relatively small signal.
