"Farmer" Jim Neal

Just received word that longtime WSLI radio personality "Farmer" Jim Neal passed away this morning. He was 84. "Farmer" Jim had been off the air for several years now, but anyone that has listened to Central Mississippi radio for any length of time will remember "Farmer" Jim Neal and his "sidekick" Feist Dog.

was making the pitch....R.I.P. Framer Jim.

sad to hear that. My mom listened to him every morning on WSLI for at least 40 years. Throughout most of the later years he was the only live person on the air but still getting good ratings even though the station was practially defunct towards the end. I figured that the station would completely die after he left. I was right. After he retired they dumped their historic call letters and lost what little heritage they had left. Sad. They should have just given Farmer Jim the station. He probally bought and paid for it anyway with all the ratings and advertisers he got. He was one of a kind, they just don't have radio people like that anymore.

Just heard about this on WJTV's 10pm news. I didn't listen much to Farmer Jim Neal, as I was a teenager during the back-end of his career and really didn't listen too much AM radio. Sad to hear about, though.

"Farmer " Jim Neal was a Mississippi Radio Icon . You talk about selling ice to polar bears , this guy could do it ! I would listen to him in the mornings while getting ready for school . Never knew just what you might hear . He would play everything from Johnny Cash to Barry Manilow . No one every did it quite like "Farmer " Jim . May he rest in peace , God Bless his family .
