Farrah Fawcett dies at 62

The principal at my middle school actually forbade the wearing to school of t-shirts bearing the iron-on transfer (remember those?) of Farrah in that "poster pose."  This was back in the 1976-77 school year, the year that Farrah was on Charlie's Angels.  I thought that that banning was ridiculous (even though I never had a shirt like that), but he also forbade the wearing to school of any clothing that advertised beer or other liquor products.  That made a little more sense to me, given that we weren't old enough to drink yet, but I should point out that that principal was also a church of Christ minister at that time.

I remember that principal referring to that swimsuit that Farrah was wearing as "skimpy," which I thought was ridiculous even then!

My school district at the time had a similar ban in place only with us it was extended for ALL TV shows, radio stations, music groups and movies..all that is except for Star Wars. For some reason they allowed those.

And yes that ban also included beer, liquor and cigarettes. I still remember this one girl who was asked to go back home to change her shirt because the words on her shirt had said "..you come a long way baby" even though the words "Virginia Slims" weren't even seen on that shirt. I always believed THAT was ridiculous.

Skimpy? I've seen Cheryl Ladd in bikinis that make that
suit Farrah wore look positively Victorian. Your principal
reminds me of a Baptist preacher whose church I attended
in the early '70s; he had a hangup (as we said then) about
miniskirts. I certainly never saw anything objectionable about
the Farrah poster.

LOL! I agree. Cheryl DID wear more revealing swimwear on Charlies Angels. I must admit in my young and single days I also had thatFarrah swimsiut poster in my apartment...though my evening job didn't permit me to see Farrah in the first season of the series.

Farrah fought a couragious battle and my prayers for her repose go with her.

Yes, it's interesting that he never said anything about the cheerleaders' miniskirts, which seemed to get shorter every year!   ;D  (Not that I'm complaining about that or anything!)  And they wore them to school and in class back then, often on very cold days!  I suppose it was okay to show your bare legs at school, as long as you did so in the name of "school spirit"!  ::)

Finally, this morning a mention of Farrah
on the news: her funeral is scheduled for
Tuesday, June 30.

We may soon be mourning the loss of another
icon: Walter Cronkite's daughter has announced
that he has an undisclosed terminal illness and is
not expected to survive. But unlike Farrah or
Michael Jackson, both of whom died relatively
young, Uncle Walter is 93, so I wonder if people
will feel the same sort of grief or take the attitude
that he lived a long, full life so why be upset?

???There's no reason one can't feel grief or loss at somebody's passing, even though they have lived a long full life.

When the time comes of Cronkite's passing, I am sure it would be the same as Ed McManhon, Farrah Fawcett, MJ and will be when Dick Clark and Patrick Swayze passes on ( I know..they aren't dead yet but the odds are both men wont be here a year from now..I hope I am wrong though ). A lot of people will look back and remember a different time . A time when people look up and trusted the TV news anchor and paid more/less attention to all of the news being reported not pick and choose stories of interest to them on the net.

People will remember Swayze and Jennifer Grey and their great scenes in Dirty Dancing..two actors who could pass off as people in your neighborhood..not plastic Hollywood stars. And like Farrah, people will remember Swayze as someone who didn't quit ( Example: The Beast ) despite having cancer.

People will remember Dick Clark and the variety of people they saw dancing on American Bandstand unlike many of today's night clubs where only the "hot ones" can enter.

Michael Jackson in the 80s his music was heard and enjoyed by many from small kids to seniors...can't say the same with the current "big star" Putbull and his current hit "I Know You Want Me", chances are one will not see a 60 year old listening to THAT.

Farrah was many guys first "crush". And who can forget that t-shirt? Poster?

There will be grief but even more..remembering and remind people of a different time. The way things were.

Though for some of us, we'll remember Dick Clark as the game show host who hosted "The $10,000 Pyramid" and most of its successors, or the guy who counts down the New Year live from Times Square. Personally, I associate Dick Clark more with Pyramid and New Year's Eve than Bandstand, as the ABC affiliates where I live(d) pre-empted Bandstand for much of my life.

Unfortunately, I think Patrick Swayze is going to be the next big actor/actress who passes away. Ed, Farrah, Michael and Billy. When is this going to stop? :(
