Fat Guy -- Hot Wife

Was at the gym yesterday and saw yet ANOTHER show I think it was called Rodney.

Of course it is ugly fat guy and a hot wife.

Just wondering how many others shows past and present have featured this combination?

All of today's, King of Queens, According to Jim, the one with Jami Gertz. Likely some others; I don't watch prime time much.

Oh, man! Don't get me started on this topic! I could write a book on the whole "very much average-looking and overweight/big-bellied guy who just so happens to have a thin and hot-looking wife with perfect breasts" bit.
And I could write a book about what I think of the latest incarnation/installment of "Average Joe" that's on TV right now, as well!

I guess you could say it started with The Honeymooners. Was anything earlier than that on TV?<P ID="signature">______________

Well, I'm not so sure that Audrey Meadows was truly a "hot-looking babe with perfect breasts".........but she did have a slim figure, and yes, Jackie Gleason was an overweight slob. And on the TV show "King of Queens", both the husband and wife are "thick around the middle"....so I give that shows creators credit for being real(istic).

I guess that sort of husband-wife combo wasn't as annoying, and wasn't the kind of thing that made you "roll-your-eyeballs-into-the-back-of-your-head" back then like is and does nowadays.

In my mind, the perfect (and far more realistic) husband-wife combination was Archie and Edith Bunker. Edith Bunker looked like the kind of woman you'd expect a guy with Archie Bunker's plain/overweight looks to look like. And Jean Stapleton did a terrific job playing Edith! She was far more hilarious to look at and listen to than any of these "fat guys' babes" you see on TV now.

It's not just limited to prime time-anyone saw Dr. Phil lately?
Seriously, what does she see in him (besides lots of money)?

I agree with you regarding Edith and Archie.

I think Audrey was about as HOT as you could get during the 50s. They really didn't have any "young," babes. Even the teen agers were portrayed by Janet Waldo (Voice of Judy Jetson) who were well into their 20s and even 30s in some cases.

I mean were there any "hot babes" in the 50s? Probably had to wait for Elly Beverly Hillbillies Mae and the Petticoat Junction girls to see any real perky breasts and swimsuits.

LOL

Well, that's a good question. Who was the first TV babe? Whether it was a wife or daughter. I don't know. Laura Petrie? Or how about that bosomy blonde Katie Douglas---Rob Douglas' wife from My Three Sons?? She had that classic mid-to-late 60's hairdo (which I couldn't stand)....but, she was pretty, she filled out her sweaters pretty well, and she was a blonde!!

I'd say it would have been Elly Mae Clampett. That character pushed the envelope (or had it pushed for her) more than Laura Petrie

Ellie Mae? Hmmm.....I suppose.
But for my money, I'll take Katie Douglas over Ellie Mae Clampett.--And that's if you're talking about 60's TV babes. Now if you wanna talk about "all-time hot-looking TV babes", well that's a different story!
