Father and Son die installing antenna

As a one-time telephone company lineman who used to work underneath high voltage lines quite a bit we always took the insulated gloves approach as there wasn't any other choice.

But why would a civilian choose to install an antenna anywhere near an electric line of any voltage? And, in this case, two people chose to make that mistake.

Tuna.... I've seen people attach long wire antennas to power poles, literally inches away from the 220V/200A feeder to the house. And I knew of a guy who was trying to figure out a way to build a carrier current system connecting to the 12.6kv feeder. His thought was that it would radiate better than the house side of the transformer. Don't know what happened to his plans, and don't want to find out.

Fact: There are a lot of doofuss' in the world. Fate is slow in exercising them out of the gene pool.

I drive by a place daily where two CB'ers got killed lofting an antenna with a surplus weather balloon. It caught a high tension power line literally 40 yards from where they were standing.

My cousin's FIL owned the property they were on. He knew them and said it was "natural selection".

He's lucky it was a less litigious society in those days. He would have probably been sued for not having a strong enough chain and lock on his gate to keep the yahoos from prying 'em loose.

He is lucky no one tried to sue him (Just cause it was on HIS LAND)

Wearing gloves is the safest thing to do when working near power feeds!
