Fav. Modern ACs?

I have heard a lot of modern ACs now and out of all the former WPNT 106.9 The Point is my fav. with KMXB Mix 94.1 being 2nd and former KCDU CD 93 being in 3rd. What is everyone else's?

The latest I've heard is KSCQ Q-92-9 out of Silver City, NM. They could really compete with KMXB Mix 94.1.

Modern AC is a dead format now days... I liked it back in the mid 90s when they first started, with stations like Alice KALC Denver being one of the first, if not thee first mod AC.... Im not much into the format now, I liked it when it leaned more Alternative, and stuff like MatchBox 20 was still considered cool. And the 80s new wave hits really helped keep the sound refreshed, but 80s are too old now, and most are just 90s and now type stations that play stuff like Sheryl Crowe and Nickelback all day.. Why cant the remaining Mod ACs play stuff like Shine Down-Second Chance,,, especially if there isnt a local MOD Rock station... In Denver, 96.5 The Peak was also a really good and unique Mod AC, Tripple A, Mod Rock Hybrid, its ashamed that flame thrower signal is airing such a boring spanish format now, but still hogging the perfect KXPK call Letters.

On a second note, the former, short lived Alice 104.1 in Saint Louis was really good too, but leaned much more Alternative than most,,,, Also in Saint Louis the old 101.1 The River was good back in its heyday, but the format and the music to keep it hot dried up, so they had to flip it... Also,, in Sprigfield Mo they had Alice 95.5 that was really cool and really Alt Rock leaning as well... And while Alive 95.5 still exists, its mainly like a jack Format now....BLEH.... they tried being Rock of the 80s for a time as well, but that failed. Ive never listened to the Alice 97.3 in San Francisco,,, but normally,,, at least in the past the Alice stations were usually the best Modern ACs,,,The reason I liked Modern ACs so much back then was to avoid all the Boy bands and Bubble Gum pop that Top 40 played at the time,, I also really liked MoDern Rock stations, but tended to favor the less harder Rock ones, and the adventurous ones that would play Electronica like KTCL 93.3 Denver used to.... Yeah.. Denver used to be an Alternative Rock fans dream with 2 rock leaning Mod ACs,,, Alice and The Peak,, and Alt Rock on 93.3 KTCL,, and KBCO 97.3 for tripple A, and 106.7 KBPI for Active AOR type rock..... Too much rock in D-town,, they kinda cannabalized each other and made Ktcl drop the Electronica and obscure tracks,, Alice turned into a Soccer Mom station, The Peak changed to spanish, leaving only KBPI and KTCL as the only MOD Rock type stations in town,,,, KBPI is still more AOR, and KBCO 97.3 is tripple A...Prog Rock... I beleive D-Town has a new Rimshot Mod Rocker on 101.5,, supposed to sound like the old KTCL,,, but I havent heard it yet.. If they stream, then perhaps I should.

That's the same reason why I liked 94.9 the Point in Norfolk, VA area and it was a fantastic station at that time. What used to be called 93.7 the Coast in the Norfolk area was also great, too, an AAA station (a little off topic)

I agree. The line between Hot AC and Modern AC has blurred in recent years. Above, someone mentioned Mix 94.1 in Las Vegas. Even they play Lady Gaga, so I am not sure you can call them a true modern AC.

You should check out that rimshot out of Denver, 101.5 KTNI. If you liked the 96.5 The Peak, you probably would like them. I don't know if they stream, but I heard them this summer and would describe them as a cross between KTCL, KBCO and Alice.

99.7 The Point in Durango, CO is a good small market Modern AC out there.

When Modern AC first came out, it was supposed to be the lighter of the Alternative Rock, but the Edgier of the Hot AC.... It was defined as a format that incorperated the best of Alternative Rock without the real hard stuff, and hot AC and AAA without the Poppy Ballads and such.. but most mod ACs now days have morphed into a full fledged HOT AC, Alt Rocker like KYSR Los Angeles, and even CHR in some cases,,, others flipped formats and became like a Jack Format. Back in 95 to 2000 there were MOD ACs all over the place, I dont even think Chicagos 101.9 THE MIX is a true Mod AC anymore. On top of that, most stations that were Alternative back then tend to be Active Rock now, leaving most on the Mod Rock chart too hard for any kind of AC station.

KVYN The Vine in Napa California. They play some good new music and buffer it with oldies and it seems to work. The quality of their on line streaming is great!

KVYN does really good work. They definitely have their own sound, and I admire that.

Star 98.7 when they were "Today's Music Alternative" and Sophie @ 103.7 when they were a hybrid Modern AC/AAA. Mix 94.1 is also good.
