Favorite commercials

We talk a lot about the commercials we
hated, but what about some of your
favorites?

I got to thinking about one that aired
around 1973, and everybody around me
had to stop talking when it came on.
It was for Mobiloil, and it featured
actor Ronny Graham as Mr. Dirt, a character
about as unkempt as Ernest T. Bass but with
a gravelly voice. Graham's attempt to look
mean came off to me as hilarious. That may
be my favorite. A close second would be those
Life cereal commercials with Mikey; in fact,
I named one of my dogs after him.

What are your favorites?

Personally, I loved the commercial for Wrigley's spearmint gum from around 1974. Loved that jingle with the deep voice singing, "gum gum gum Wrigley's Spearmint gum gum Gum."

There are also lots of commercials that I look back on fondly and wish I could see now...Operation (don't touch the sides!), connect four (Here diagonally...Pretty sneaky Sis), dow Bathroom Cleaner (We work hard so you don't have toooooooooo) and so many others. Can you tell I grew up in the 70s? :)

I loved all of them Ronco commercials from the 1970's!

Also.......who could forget....Ricardo Montalban's "rich corinthian leather" from that Chrysler Cordoba ad back in the late 1970's.

According to my parents, I loved that commercial as a toddler. Evidently, I really liked that deep voice, too. Maybe it doesn't take much to grab a two-year-old's attention, I don't know. ;-)

I always loved the holiday Hershey's Kisses commercial with the kisses as bells ringing out "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." It officially felt like the Christmas season once I saw that commercial. I don't remember seeing it this past Christmas. Did anyone else see it?

Does anyone remember the Safer's Insecticide commercial from the late 1980's in which the man sprays some insecticide on an apple (to prove that Safer's Insecticide is safe), starts to eat the apple, and then starts choking, but after a few seconds says, "just kidding" and continues to eat the apple. That's my favorite commercial of all time.

Any of the old Mego toy commericals from the 70's. I'm also a collector of said toys(World's Greatest Super Heroes, Action Jackson, & The Micronauts are my favorites)hence my screen name.
______________
"Always on the move." Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge Of the Sith

The Sucrets ad with the couple in bed and the husband is coughing....
"...Barbara, you up? Barbara, you up?"
"I'm up now..."
At the end, he's resting comfortably, she's playing solitaire in bed...
"I'm glad ONE OF US can sleep..."

It always reminded me of my parents.

Runners-up have to include the Budweiser Christmas one with Ed McMahon, the Miller Christmas one with the sleigh thru town that ends up at a front door, and the Noelco (uhh, Norelco) one with Santa riding around in the snow on a shaver head. [you get the feeling there are great ads around the holidays?]

In the how-could-I-forget column: definitely the Macintosh 1984 (wasn't there a football game that day? :) ) and those Dodge ads a few years ago (some of which got 'remixed') "NOT today!" "just-just-just right size"
