Favorite (forgotten?) Christmas songs

There's one Christmas song that I haven't heard in United States and it's very popular in United Kingdom, Ireland, rest of Europe, Australia, and Canada is

DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by CHRIS RHEA

https://youtu.be/czhZbqpyBm8

I'm not sure if any radio stations in the United States play this song. I heard this song when I was vacationing in Vancouver BC and they played on CHQM QM/FM 103.5 and CHLG 104.3 THE BREEZE.

This is a VERY good song!!! Radio is making a mistake by not playing this gem!

I've heard it on the Holiday Pop mix from Muzak that the Lowe's store I work at is using.

Aside from Chris Rae and a select "few" original classics they play, that station is beyond-awful. Mostly modern mixes of some classics and how many times a day can do we have to put up with "This Christmas" by 90's and 00's R&B groups?? I'm not sure of the demographics that channel is aiming for, but it needs to go, for good. It's on at Burlington too.

In Britain, there is a major competition every year for the Christmas number one song: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UK_Singles_Chart_Christmas_number_ones

I'll go along with that. That includes Gloria Estefan, who is not R&B but her backup musicians are.

I'm not hearing songs from "The Nutcracker" on the radio. I have an LP which I guess was my father's but nothing to play it on unless the turntable that hasn't been turned on in at least 30 years works.

"Kids Say the Darndest Things", which introduced a whole new generation of annoying songs this week, had two songs from the ballet.

Mannheim Steamroller's version of Faeries gets airplay here. Just about their entire library of holiday music is worthy of a listen.
Won't be long before AM news/talkers air An American Christmas with Chip Davis. A nice relief from the usual right-wing talk, even for just a day or two. He has some great stories to share too. The mouse that influenced Silent Night, the origin of Santa Claus, etc.

Here are mine:

Beach Boys
Little Saint Nick

Bob Seger & And The Silver Bullet Band

With the exception of the last one, KRTH used to play these in the 2000's until maybe 2012 or 2013, then disappeared and went to XM.

All played within the last couple of hours on WRCH Hartford, along with other vintage titles by Nat King Cole, Gene Autry, Dean Martin (Winter Wonderland), Bert Kampfaert (Jingo Jango), Tony Bennett (White Christmas), James Taylor (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas) and more, in addition to Mariah, the Guaraldi Trio, etc. Looks like KRTH made the decision to bail on the classics and WRCH didn't. Then again, I don't listen to Christmas music regularly, so maybe the Hartford station is only expanding its playlist because Christmas is almost here. I am positive, thought, that the three classics you haven't heard since 2013 are alive and well every December up here where it actually gets cold.

CTListener:

They may have vanished from Los Angeles and the West Coast, but listeners in other parts of the country, (Northeast) have better luck and still hear them. I believe that.

WRDC, Hartford's Big D in CT. It's possible WRDC may have a bigger playlist than KRTH.

Perhaps those tracks test well and more popular back east than out west?

Yes, KRTH's Christmas Selection is VERY small today compared to what I was hearing in the 00's.

You mean WDRC. Sadly, WDRC hasn't been the Big D for five years. It was sold in 2014 and flipped first to rock-based classic hits and then to pure classic rock. It's been sold again since, but it's still a tight-playlist classic rocker and known as The Whale. It also does very well in the ratings and, I assume, bills well, too, so I guess its old listeners have either moved on or passed on. DRC still has an oldies jukebox on its HD2 signal -- which it doesn't stream online -- that goes pretty deep, but I don't think it flips for Christmas. I haven't listened to it in a while, will give it a listen later tonight and see if it's gone Christmas.

No surprise, when isn't their playlist small?? L.A. listeners have alternatives. KRTH should not be one of them.

Most of those songs are played on America's Best Music. A lot of them are on the other stations I hear in the car.

I have a Yule Log with "Bring a Torch" and "I Saw Three Ships". While I haven't tried BBN, I haven't heard these on any of the other stations.

Other than "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (the traditional version) I would disagree. "Deck the Halls" is okay, I suppose.
I should have added this. I hear numerous annoying songs and find out when I look at the title and artist, if the web site provides them, that the song was played by Mannheim Steamroller.

Update on WDRC-FM HD2: Christmas music is on today. Just heard Bing Crosby & the Andrews Sisters' "Jingle Bells," then Nat King Cole's "Christmas Song," and the Ray Conniff Singers' "The First Noel," so certainly a traditional take on the holiday three songs in.

I've been hearing Ray Charlies version of, That Spirit of Christmas. But it's not available on any of the streaming services. Is there a copyright issue? It's a great song.
