Favorite Oldies Shows/Formats Though The Years?

For me, the concept of an oldies show on FM began in 1973 with, "The 11:00 Wax Museum, " on WVUD. I also enjoyed the WOXY of 1980. If memory serves, Bob Darringer? was the PD there. He had a weekday show at 3.00, and hosted, "Saturday Night at the Oldies," on Saturday. Did anybody besides me like the station at that time?

Seems I remember Wax Museum starting at 7, at least in 1975. I would say WGRR between 1976 and 2001..especially Dial-a-Hit and Dusty's show.

Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Flashback, and now AT40:The 80s. Also Power 95/WDJK for being the first station in the country to attempt to do 80s oldies. Hard to believe that the 80s are considered oldies now. My how time flies.

Also...the old "Reelin' In The Years" syndicated show that used to air Sunday mornings on WTUE, named after the song by Steely Dan.

Rock, Roll & Remember - Dick Clark - WING
Solid Gold Saturday Night - Dick Bartley - WLTQ / WVUD
"Cousin Brucie" Show - Bruce Morrow - WING
The Real Don Steele - Don Steele - WING
Jelly Pudding - Zanidude (Frank Wood) - WEBN

Would that be Dusty Rhoads? I used to listen to his Sunday night show on WLW - the signal reached me in NJ. Once, in the late '80s, he did an all country crossover show, which is how I acquired a fondness for classic country.

That would be Dusty Rhodes. Reeling in the Years was a great show..I board opped it in Ft. Wayne. Then there was Soundtrack of the 60s with Murray the K. And The History of Rock and Roll

The oldies version of Wax Museum had disappeared by !975, they had two of them for a while there. When did Murray the K host Soundtrack of the Sixties? I only remember Gary Owens. I might as well mention Live from the 60's while I'm at it. The Real Don Steele did a show truly worthy of audio tape!

Agreed on Dick Clark, Dick Bartley and Cousin Brucie Morrow. They have stood the test of time and still have it, although our buddy, Dick Bartley is the youngun in the group. :) Don't know about the Real Don Steele, although I have heard The Real Bob Steele.

Back in 1997 record companies weren't demanding royalties. As far as I'm concerned, $15 a year is a bargain for hours and hours of entertainment.

Gr8t: Just a quick correction - WGRR was not in existence in 1976. I know this because I physically drove a U-Haul trailer to Evansville, Indiana to pick up the FM antenna which was going to begin the ownership of the station by BENI Broadcasting of Ohio (the late Regan Henry's company) as WOKV-FM. This was around 1978 or so, maybe late '77...WOKV was first Top 40 (going after Q with Pat Berry as PD.), then it was all disco for a brief time (Yikes!!!!), then flipped to a hybrid top 40/AC/Oldies mixture "Makin' Friends And Makin' Memories". Around that time, I went to work for BENI of Ohio at WCIN-AM (Then WOKV's sister station, though we were in 2 separate facilities---WCIN on Glenwood Avenue, and WOKV in a bank building in Hamilton).

The next format flip was to Urban as WBLZ...WGRR came into being after WBLZ had been around for a number of years.
