Favorite overnight shows?

Lately I have found myself up in the middle of the night not being able to sleep, so I've been searching around on my wifi radio for good overnight shows. C2C AM dominates, but I am really starting to get tired of it, I really only listen when Art Bell does the Halloween show. The ones I can think of that I enjoy are Joey Reynolds on WOR, Phil Hendrie, Jon Grayson on KMOX-KDKA-WCCO, and Steve Leveille on WBZ. I don't know of any other overnight shows that aren't sports or trucking-related.

What overnight shows do you guys listen to when you are suffering from a bout of insomnia or have to be up in the middle of the night for other reasons?

I liked Rollye James; don't know if she's still around. C2C gives me really bad dreams if I fall asleep listening to it, so if I turn on the radio overnight it's usually the American Trucker Radio Network (formerly Truckin' Bozo) on WLW. Least I get news and weather updates, and it can be entertaining at times.

...if you ignore the Trucker Lingo, and don't try to translate it in your head. :D ATN is well-produced, out of WLW itself, but if I close my eyes while listening, I feel like I'm at a truck stop at times...

ATR is really not so much about Truckin' anymore. It's actually quite informative about many issues. Anyone who hasn't listened in awhile might enjoy it.

I still switch back and forth to C2C though. But I have to say, some of the guests and callers are freaking idiots.

:D

Seems like it's a little more about trucking than it was when the Bozo himself was hosting it; he did get into a lot of political and even some conspiracy theories. The wildest ATR show was the one where Gary Jeff Walker and Sensible Don filled in; somehow the gay marriage topic came up.

J&J are still on? No, seriously, are they?

I figured they were still on KLSX locally, but got the feeling their syndication fell apart when "FM hot talk" started hitting the skids...

Ian Punnet is a great host on Coast To Coast A.M.

George Noory is also great.

I enjoyed "The Joey Reynolds Show" when it was on WABB-AM in Mobile until the station decided to replace it with "The Midnight Radio Network", another truck-related program. I still miss "The Joey Reynolds Show" everyday, since it did not depend on news, politics, and callers like almost every other radio talk show on WABB-AM and WNTM-AM in Mobile. It was also entertaining and not mean-spirited.

Rollye James is alive and well on XM. I remember several great overnight shows in the seventies, including Larry Glick on WBZ and The Dawn Patrol on WIP in Philly...

Up until roughly a year ago, Rollye James was syndicated to under 20 stations and to XM Radio, but she decided to drop all her AM and FM stations and go strictly with XM. Apparently syndicating her show to local stations was no longer worth the satellite fees she was being charged. She also has a free 24/7 stream on her website which broadcasts the live show, and replays it for the rest of the day/night.

I'm wondering if you can pick up Joey's show via flagship WOR/710...does it get that far south overnight?

The WBZ overnight programming has been the gold standard for over forty years with Dick Summer, Larry Glick, Dave Maynard, Bob Raleigh and Steve LeVeille on weeknights and Norm Nathan, Jordan Rich and LeVeille on weekends.

I'm glad that 'BZ reinstated LeVeille. It speaks highly of WBZ, and their long tradition of excellence in that daypart, that the firing of a midnight-5AM host would generate such a fierce public outcry.

I've also enjoyed listening to Joey Reynolds and Joe Mazza in the past. Is Mazza still out there?

Unless WNTM-AM 710 were to sign off from 12:00 AM until 5:00 AM or changes frequencies in the future, receiving WOR-AM 710 on the radio is not possible in Mobile.

As my only local AM station no longer airs 'C-2-C AM", I receive it via KFI in Los Angeles and air it on my bedside clock radio via one of those C. Crain FM transmitters. I find the internet offers overnight listening especially if you go for programs that air in morning drive in Europe. Try listening to the British Forces Broadcasting Service or the Voice of America just for something different. "Pirate" stations like Radio Caroline still offer interesting alternatives.

1.Alan Colmes

2.Rollye James but she is no longer terrestrial

3.Rick Barber/50kW KOA DENVER and Big Steve on Friday morning (Rick's producer)

4.Midnight Truckers - Gary McNamara/Eric Harley they are underrated as their topic coverage includes economic discussions from a libertarian, free market perspective

Clear Channel could make some well needed revenue if they syndicated Rick Barber and Big Steve through Premeire via the Clear Channel Denver studios.

If Clear Channel would ever listen to Jerry Collianno, they would realize that Rick provides the type of caller friendly magazine show that listeners like.

Then CC's Air America outlets can be live, and they won't have to replay reruns of malloy, hartmann, etc. al. all night long.

Rick calls himself a "radical centerist."

Big Steve is "socially liberal."
