*sigh* All the other girls my age wanted to be Mrs. Shaun Cassidy. I wanted to be Dr. Johnny Fever.
Man, some of the best ramps I ever talked up were at a previous oldies station where I could leave the headphones off and open the studio door to listen on the hallway monitor. I relied heavily upon that trick because the compression made it so that you couldn't tell through the headphones exactly how loud your beds (or the songs, most of which were originally recorded in mono) were coming through under the mic on any given break. If I'd have had to rely upon my cans I'd have shouted myself hoarse and sounded awful.
But yeah, with I always wondered where all the other WKRP jocks were, as well as Johnny's and Venus's conveniently revolving dayparts (sometimes it was morning/midday, sometimes afternoon drive into evenings)...and who the heck was running the station when the entire crew was off somewhere else?
