Favorite Rock station?

My favorite rock station ( you didn't mention time frame)

Cleveland: G-98 WELW-FM WIXY 1260 :)
Pittsburgh 13Q 96 Kix WIXY 1360 :D
Wheeling: 16WNUE & 14WK 8)
Steubenville: Music Radio 95 WLIT ::)
Washington Pa. WKEG ::)
Detroit /Windsor... The BIG 8 CCCKKKKLLWWWW ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thats it... continue on with your K-Rock rants!

you didn't mention time frame

If any time frame is added to the question, then mine would be:

WZUM in the late 1960's when "Underground Explosion" was on.
WAMO-FM when Brother Love was on.
KQV-FM just before it switched to WDVE
The early days of WDVE

I noticed he's not here today. Maybe he got detention for looking at non-educational sites during study hall.

Oh some other favorite rock stations

Parkersburg-1450 WPAR
and while we are on that "gravyard" frequency how about

Myrtle Beach-1450 WMYB or 1520 WTGR ;D

i still have top of the hours from wgcl in cleveland when the had a local band do the jingles...and they rocked...

My new favorite rock station is WOCM 98.1, The Ocean, in Ocean City, Maryland.

Must be tough listening to it while driving in Pittsburgh traffic.

Which is your favorite? 937k-rock,1059thex and 102.5 wdve?

Definitely 102.5. You've got a stellar live and very local morning show rooted in the community, and you can still hear locally-produced music every once in awhile.

That would assume that the only time anyone ever listens to the radio would be in their car, which just isn't the case. The fact that they, like everybody else these days, stream, just means you can have a favorite radio station outside of the market. Mind you, if you did want to listen in the car, they offer podcasts as well, so you can take them with you. But the idea that, in a discussion of anyone's favorite station, we have to limit ourselves simply to what can be heard in the car is a ludicrous argument at best.

Just as is the argument that there is some radio station in a distant city whose program offereings are so special, so unique, so superior to what is available over the airwaves that more than a handful of radio nuts would go so far as to record that distant station to listen to instead of stations that can be picked up on the local airwaves.

I'd love to see a discussion between the "all radio has to be live and local" crowd and the "I'd rather listen to distant city stations on the internet" crowd.

If someone wishes to start that thread, I may contribute to it. But that isn't the premise of this thread, only a simple question of favorite rock station. I used to listen to KSPY out of Oklahoma City all the time in my apartment, simply because I found their musical offerings better than anything in the Pittsburgh market. Truth be told, I haven't listened to music on Pittsburgh radio in better than 2 years, because I don't find the music selection on local stations all that interesting, and the comedy bits with yinzers and piped in laugh tracks have worn quite thin with me.

So if someone does find a station outside of the market that they call their favorite, I can't say as I blame them all that much. BUt, such as is your way, rather than ask a question of why someone would like a station in Ocean City over something here, i.e. wht is it that they are doing you like?, what type of playlist do they have?, are they doing something different compared to Pittsburgh radio? you instead offer a snide comment about not hearing it in the car, which is much your way on these boards, if an answer comes up that you don't like, it is a snide comment or a twisting of logic that is bound to follow.

Ten years ago, even 5 years ago, that discussion might have been interesting.

Now, because much of radio isn't live and local means people are looking elsewhere for their pleasures. If Pittsburgh radio isn't going to be all/mostly live and local, then what difference does it make if I'm listening to "distant" radio on a PGH frequency, or "distant" radio on a Hartford frequency?

Your gotcha point failed.

Several people said "well, if I'm not limited to distance and/or time frame" and named stations. I don't understand why my post was the only one that got the "duh" treatment.

No I don't listen to it online (don't have that capacity @ work) but it can still be a favorite. Corn on the cob is my favorite food, but that doesn't mean I eat it every day.

Well I did check out the station on the web after seeing the post on here last night. INteresting that they not only stream the show, but have a camera in the booth and do a live webcast as well. Of course I was listening overnight, so I didn't see any live happenings going on, but they were playing some older rock cuts that I haven't heard around here recently, though that may just be attributed to my lack of listening to local stations as much as them playing cuts that don't show up in a Pittsburgh station's rotation.

 Wow! Thanks for the blast from the past! ;D There was at least one other 'progressive' station at that time in Pgh, wasn't there? I know it's living in the past, but those were the days!
