Favorite Smooth Jazz Stations

Forgive me for bringing this up, I am just starting here. I'm not trying to start a war or anything with this topic. ;) ;D I thought I would share some of mine of my favorites, maybe you will agree.

I think they are still some good smooth jazz stations out there IMO.

Gainesville Smooth Jazz 100.9 WXJZ - Plays some of Jones' former songlist sometime. They have a good playlist and they play songs by artists that other smooth jazz stations don't play. Although I don't like Bob and Sheri starting the day.

Coos Bay Smooth Jazz 105.9 - Excellent station IMO. Locally owned from what I know, great playlist, I even heard some songs that I have forgot about.

San Diego Smooth Jazz 98.1 - Like everyone else has said, is doing a great job on playlist and has a great core of folks working for them.

Starview Smooth Jazz 92.7 - I like the djs Paul, Carol, Jay, they have a good playlist, some songs I could do without though. I like listening to a local and get the feel like I'm living there. (You know.)

Seattle Smooth Jazz 98.9 - Seattle's station is another station that will play a different song from an artist that you haven't heard from in a while. I don't listen to the station much like I used to though. Another good group of folks who work there and always been nice when I emailed them.

The wav. - Excellent all around. AC Tones, you keep up the great work sir.

Some of my favorite artists are Brian Hughes, Chieli Minucci, Euge Groove, Greg Adams, Joyce Cooling, Mindi Abair, Nick Colionne, Nils, Jessy J, Steve Cole, Rick, Braun, Richard Elliot, Tim Heintz, Wayman Tisdale and even the vocals of Melody Gradot, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Al Jarreau, Swing Out Sister.

Welcome to the board, Jazz Kat! Thanks so much for the kind words, and for listening. :) I am humbled to be mentioned amongst the terrestrial radio outlets you listed. The thing about this format is, there is PLENTY of room for all of us. The NEW music is there to do this well, and we sure as heck have plenty of music to work with from the 80s, 90s, and the current decade. With passion, determination, and a willingness to reach out to listeners of all ages, WE can make it happen together.

Peace,

Chris

Don't forget the Southern California Desert's Smooth Jazz station - KJJZ, Palm Springs. And, you can listen to us on line at kjjz.com. We're proud of our growth -- AND our most recent Arbitron rating.

I just thought about my favorite stations as well that I can listen to the internet since my 105.7 in Vegas just changed formats to Urban AC just recently. Here are my favorites that I like to listen to:

Smooth Jazz 96.1 the Bridge (Redding, CA)
Smooth Jazz 95.5 KYOT (Phoenix, AZ)
Smooth Jazz 98.1 (San Diego, CA)
Smooth Jazz 105.9 the Wave (Coos Bay, OR)
Smooth Jazz 94.7 (Sacramento, CA)
Smooth Jazz 92.1 (Reno, NV)

KIFM plays an excellent group of current/older instrumentals but I wish they would ramp up their vocals. Still too much old Sade/Anita/Luther and that little cluster of early 1980s songs (100 Ways, Baby Come To Me, If Ever youre in my arms again. etc) need a long rest. People who are 40 now were 10 in 1980. There is no relevance anymore.

KSSJ is another one that does some tasty instrumentals then sounds like an oldies/classic hits station when the vocals come up. "Layla"???
My nephew just turned 30. He was born in 1980. In other words people who turned 30 and will soon be moving into the 35-54 demo were in diapers when those old war-horses like "100 Ways", "Baby Come To Me," etc were hits. Not relevant. Time to move on. There are stunning real NAC vocals out there. They just aren't usually on high-budget labels.
