Does ANYONE play the wonderful 1967 hit "The Wheel Of Hurt" by Margaret Whiting? This is truly a lost gem.
I would like to hear “The Wheel Of Hurt” just to see if I recognize it. I don’t remember it, but it was No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart for 4 weeks in November 1966; also got to No. 26 on the Hot 100.
I wish they would play more of the lost MOR hits of the 50s thru the 70s, some of the lesser known hits of established artists, and those great instrumental singles. Some suggestions...
Ame Caline (Soal Coaxing) – Raymond LeFevre
Hungry For Love – San Remo Golden Strings
That Happy Feeling – Bert Kaempfert
The Dis-Advantages Of You – Brass Ring
San Francisco – Paul Mauriat
Swinging Sweetheats – Ron Goodwin
Calypso Melody – David Rose
L. David Sloane – Michele Lee
Walk Away – Matt Monro
Sailor (Your Home Is The Sea) – Lolita
Shrimp Boats – Jo Stafford
Invisible Tears - Ray Conniff
Better Days - Melissa Manchester
All - James Darren
In The Quiet Morning - Joan Baez
Perry Como: "Don’t Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes;" "Oowee Oowee;" "I Looked Back"
Steve Lawrence: "Everybody Knows;" "Sweet Maria;" "We Can Make It Together" (Steve & Eydie)
New Seekers: "When There’s No Love Left;" "The Greatest Song I’ve Ever Heard"
Jackie DeShannon: "Vanilla Olay;" "The Weight"
Petula Clark: Put “Downtown” on the shelf for a while and play “Round Every Corner,” “Who Am I,” or “Color My World."
Olivia Newton-John: Put away “I Honestly Love You” and “Have You Never Been Mellow” and bring out “Come On Over,” “Let It Shine,” or get really daring with the country sounding “Banks Of The Ohio,” her follow-up to “If Not For You.”
Anne Murray: Saw her in concert… I know her personal favorite is “You Needed Me,” but when was the last time you heard “Cotton Jenny” or “A Little Good News?” I’m just glad some easy listening stations like WEZV in Myrtle Beach and KHOY in Laredo play “Let There Be Love” every now and then. (That’s the duet with her daughter Dawn Langstroth from the
What A Wonderful World CD).
From the Frank Sinatra library, there were several newer Easy Listening chart hits which I don’t believe I’ve ever heard… “I Can’t Believe I’m Losing You,” “My Way Of Life,” “Rain In My Heart” (all Top Ten in 1968), “I Would Be In Love” (No. 4 in 1970), “Anytime (I’ll Be There)” (No. 10 in 1975). My personal favorite thankfully does still get played… “Softly, As I Leave You.”
I guess it's rather amazing how there can be 60 years' worth of music and we still hear the same stuff over & over.
