Favorites

OK.... Here is a simple question for all:
Who are your favorite jocks on Long Island radio, and why.
Take your time and fill us in. ???

My all-time favorite is Gordie Baker! Or was it Ken Sasso? Hmmmm..maybe Hal Whitney. No.... George Flowers!!!!

Growing up in the 70's, I remember listening to a weekend show called "Sinatra & Friends" hosted by Ray Mann on WGLI. ("It's so nice, it's so nice to have Ray Mann around the house") It was a fun show with lots of trivia questions and weather reports by Dr. Frank Fieldmouse.

WOW! George Flowers. One of the guys that I mentored. One of the best anywhere. May I add Bob Klien, another real pro who held the fort at WALK through many transitions. From Classical to Hot A/C, Bob was a true natural. I hope he well and enjoying his retirement in Florida.

I used to like Bob Klien on WRIV/WALK-FM back in the 70s and of course Paul Sidney on WLNG. My dad knew him from back in the 50s!

I guess that I should answer my own question ;)
My favorites were/are...... Kaptain Kevin and Rockin' Robyn.
I have always enjoyed the Kaptain, and when Robyn Lane was a fixture at BAB, I was always listening. You could say that the 2 of them were reasons I decided to get into the radio business. They both sounded as if they were having the best time on the air. I will also give kudos to some others: Chaz & AJ are consumate professionals, and even though they are accross the sound in Connecticut, they make listening to the radio fun and interesting for us here on Long Island.
There you have it....... Anyone else ?

Funny, I was just about to mention the good Kaptain (throw me in the "Punch in the Face" club for taking so long), and Robyn was also one of my earlier influences after my pal BC & I saw her as we drove our only WBAB ("Out in the Streets"?) road rally back around 1986? I must be off, I can't be that old! I have fond memories of chatting with her one night before she played my request "Still Got the Blues (for you)" by Gary Moore, and sent it out to me.

Useless trivia: both gave me reason to listen to overnights at WALK, as Kevin Thompson & Robyn Lane. Bill Edwards and Gene Michaels sure know where to find good talent.

You might be happy to know that Ray Mann is still alive and well and operating his home based business a stones throw from the WALK studios.

I remember as a small boy growing up in Patchogue, my mom listening to "Dial a Deal" with John Libynski (or was it Jay Libysnski in those days?) on WPAC. Glad to hear you're still around.

One of my favorites was Joel Martin from WBAB in the mid 70's. It was Joel Martin and also the flip of WABC to talk radio in 1982 that inspired my personal fascination with Talk Radio.

I used to listen to WPAC as a small boy in Patchauge from 1961 to 1963 (Ages 5-7) but I do not remember who it was, but the AM DJ wished me a Happy Birthday, The coolest thing about stations like WPAC was when it snowed was hearing what schools were closed. (HOORAY!!)

AFAIK, Joel is still going strong, happy to say.
