Over on country WKQB (106.9 FM), the syndicated "Rick and Bubba Show" has been dropped. Rick and Bubba had been added to the programming lineup a year ago in the hopes that it could turn around the station's feeble morning-drive ratings.
Never happened.
"One thing that's obvious," said Tom Haymond, "Rick and Bubba were not accepted in this market." Haymond is the market manager for the Cumulus Broadcasting stations in the Fayetteville area.
The Southern Pines-based station overhauled its country format on Labor Day to add such classic artists as Willie Nelson, James Taylor and Lynyrd Skynyrd to the mix.
Say goodbye to "KIX 106.9."
And say hello to "Thunder 106.9." Actually, say goodbye to WKQB and say hello to WFVL. The station has changed its call letters, as well.

I'm no fan of Cumulus....they really messed up the Fayetteville market.

so how does the station sound?

Sounds a lot like Hank to me, but with DJ's. I heard it for a little while last weekend while in that neck of the woods.
