Live human beings at the FCC are reading these forums. it has been confirmed via something an FCC Field Agent said to my friend.

It would be nice if they would post their comments and interact with us.

it would get rid of all the speculation and they would get to know the individuals that they inevetably have to deal with.

good point. but it seems anymore all the f.c.c. cares to do is screw with god people who really do good for the community.

I know that at least one agent reads the part 15 oriented boards. I am not an agent nor have ever been one, but I was employed by a public entity and was not permitted to speak as a representative of that entity. I could speak for myself, could disclose my employer's name, but could not give the impression that I was representing them.

It could well be that there are FCC agents posting here and elsewhere, but I would be very surprised if they would disclose that they are agents.

While I can't speak of the agents of today, I can give you my own past experience:

I got to know my local field agent back when I was engineering a station in Southern Connecticut thanks to my involvement in the New York chapter of the SBE. While the FCC had their job to do, they were fair and accommodating. They made a point to tell us engineers that if you called them to let them know you were going on vacation they would not pull an inspection on your station while you were away. I thought that was pretty decent of them. I never had my station inspected during my tenure as engineer but the engineer who took over for me had the pleasure of their presence.

Of course I can't say how things have changed since then, but I often wonder about it. I was forced to turn in a pirate that was willfully interfering with a licensed station I do work for. While they were never able to apprehend the pirate in question, I wonder if these same agents would otherwise hassle those who are operating legit Part 15 operations. I plan on installing a couple of these stations in the near future and I know of at least two individuals who currently operate Part 15 certified transmitters as a hobby. I wonder if they will just give them trouble "... just because" or just leave these hobbyists alone.

i will say Pirates who do Purposely interfear with a licenced broadcast staion should be busted and shut down.

seriously if you are going to pirate. at least be professional about it. pick a real clear channel (they can figure out if the channel is clear or not easy with radio-locator) dont do stupid stuff like 1 hour cursing sessions, ect.
and do something usefull for the community.

Bill:

The NYC, Beefalo and Bawston field offices have a reputation for leaving legit part 15 AM operators alone. Since you will be running a Rangemaster you will have nothing to fear. Now the Filly office? That's another matter.

BTW. I saw your glowing review of Station Playlist Studio and Creator in RW awhile back and it has prompted me to demo each program. So far I like what I see and quite probably Studio will displace Raduga on my computer.

Thanks Gawd I'm not in Philly! Since I know the engineers of the three local stations (two AMs and one FM) I plan on chatting with them just to stay friendly with them. I'll probably even try to borrow an FIM from one of them or see if one of them will come out and check my leaky coax on-campus FM so I can set the proper field strength at the campus perimeter. I figure it's better to stay friendly with the folks in the local engineering community - especially since one of them was nice enough to arrange from some donated equipment for the school station.

I think you'll like it. I was initially going to go with the Windows version of the Digital Junkbox ... er, Jukebox until it screwed over many months of work on my updated music library. My second choice was Raduga until another webcaster turned me on to StationPlaylist - I found it a lot easier to learn and a bit more flexible. You can hear the Pro version of the software suite on my webstream so you can hear a sample of what it can do.
