He wasn’t great on SNL either, constantly breaking character.Fallon is just not good at being a late night host.

And the stuff he broke on wasn’t even funny. He wasn’t great on SNL either, constantly breaking character.
His movies sucked too.And the stuff he broke on wasn’t even funny.
Almost Famous was good, but it wasn’t his movie. His movies sucked too.
It would have been great, if he wasn’t in it!Almost Famous was good, but it wasn’t his movie.
Jimmy is good as supporting cast. Not to carry a show.I mean, I don't wanna pile on, but....
When they announced Fallon for Tonight and Seth Meyers for Late Night, I said they got it backwards. Seth wouldn't be able to do what he does now, and is probably happier, but Seth has more poise and polish, and is an infinitely better interviewer than Jimmy.

Lorne is the only reason Jimmy is there.
Conan got a raw deal. He would have succeeded with Tonight had he been given a chance.Yeah, but Lorne gave us Conan. Lorne's capable of spotting and promoting good talent. Fallon was okay at 12:35 (and that was mostly because he could stretch out and do more musical stuff). He's not the guy for the Tonight Show.
I think they should've kept Leno a while longer until he naturally retired, though. The market was too oversaturated with the same kind of host, and Fallon I could tell for a while tried to mimic Jay in some ways. But Jay at 11:30 and Jimmy at 12:30 would've worked for a few more years.I mean, I don't wanna pile on, but....

NBC knew Leno was aging out of the demo. They wanted a succession plan.I think they should've kept Leno a while longer until he naturally retired, though. Fallon also interviewed Trump back in September 2016. To say it did not go over well would be a major understatement; it's possible he's never recovered from it.What gets ignored/forgotten here is that of the current generation of late-night hosts, only one tried to be non-political. Jimmy Fallon. That bought him deep third place in the ratings. He's trying to do the material now, but it doesn't fit his persona.
Between Colbert and Kimmel, more than four million viewers a night choose political comedy to 1.1 million for Fallon.

It will be interesting to see whether Colbert stays through May or the new regime just pays him a few million to go away. And what happens to "60 Minutes"?
