FCC approves Citadel-ABC sale, but......

Citadel has to sale 11 stations preferably to a minority or woman-owned company. How do you think this will affect this market?

ZILCH.They only have to sell eleven stations IF they own stations in the same market as their new purchases, in order to meet local market requirements. Considering that they have not owned any stations in this market previously, this decision will not have an impact here in DFW. I would not be surprised to see the Twister be spun off, due to poor performance, signal and programming wise, but that would be it.

ABC/Disney is keeping all the ESPN and Radio Disney outlets, so Citadel is not getting KMKI or KESN. It's D/FW cluster will only be WBAP, KSCS, and KTYS. It's not likely they would sell KTYS and go with a standalone AM/FM combo. Even if the 96.7 facility is weak, 80% of market #5 is still a facility that can be run with a nice profit.

A lot of the spin-offs are going to be unloading stations they had before the ownership rules last changed that were grandfathered in. Since this is a merger creating a "new" Citadel, some of the existing clusters that are too big have to be broken up, i.e. spinning off something in Albuquerque (where there are too many stations in the current KNML 610, KKOB 770, KTBL 1050, KRST 92.3, KKOB-FM 93.3, KBZU 96.3, KMGA 99.5, KDRF 103.3 cluster) and OK City (WWLS 640, WKY 930, WWLS-FM 97.9, KYIS 98.9, KATT-FM 100.5, KKWD 104.9, KINB 105.3). No doubt the weakest facilities will go (i.e. KINB 105.3).

What you're saying is basically correct. Citadel will have to unload some of its better signals (KBZU in Albuquerque is an example), but most of those signals will be rather inconsequential. In the case of KBZU, it hasn't brought in much revenue in spite of the signal. Also, keep in mind that Citadel says it does intend to sell some of its stations in smaller markets. While they don't mention any specifics, I would expect that would be stations in areas like Presque Isle, Maine. Once again, this doesn't really affect Dallas/Ft. Worth in any way, shape or form. The major concern on part of the ABC stations will be what Citadel thinks in terms of budgeting, programming and staff rather than forced divestitures.

The only stations in Oklahoma City for sale are KINB-105.3 and KKWD-104.9 and WKY-930 am

That is the question. Rumors have it going oldies,Other rumors say it will be spun off. If its spun off, expect it to go spanish.

Oldies seems like an odd choice since the market already has KLUV (the market didn't really support two oldies stations with KODZ and KLUV, and KODZ was a Cedar Hill facility) and that Citadel doesn't seem to be a big believer in the format. It has 200+ stations. Two years ago, they had under a dozen oldies outlets. Now, it looks like they have 5 outlets (WOMG 103.1 Columbia, WHNN 96.1 Flint/Saginaw, KEYF-FM 101.1 Spokane being the larger stations). Over the last two years, they've flipped all the others...Tri-Cities TN/VA WKOS 104.9 to AC "Peak," Buffalo's WHTT 104.1's recent move to adult hits "Mix104.1," KSPZ 92.9 Colorado Springs to AC KKPK "Peak," WOZI 101.9 Presque Isle ME to classic rock, WJIM-FM 97.5 Lansing MI to top 40. It hasn't changed any station to oldies.

TRue,but those close to the new guys in charge are still mulling it over .KODZ lost becaseu it ran ouf ot money for promotions and the owner had little to no experience in radio,on top of little patience. KLUV is still ripe for a good competitor.
