Just doing some research for a project and I was wondering about any news on a potential FCC filing window for Class A stations. I had heard one was slated to occur late last year or early this year. Is this true?
 
YES, in 2006, so they say...

The FCC Audio Division staff has indicated that they expect to open a window for the filing of new and major change non-commercial education FM applications sometime during 2006. You can contact the Audio Division staff directly at 202-418-2700 for more information.

In my telephone conversation with the FCC staff member last fall, I asked this very question and the answer was that they didn't know yet. They did say that the general window would open after the backlog of mutually exclusive (MX) applications was resolved (they thought). I also inquired if the non-reserved channels reserved for non-commercial use would be handled in a separate window or the same window as reserved channels (88.1-91.9 MHz) - they did not know but would not rule it out. There is a lot that they had not decided at the time.

Where did you get this information? The people I work with are eager to file a non-commercial educational FM application. They were originally told the window would happen in late 2005, so they're getting anxious. I shared this information with them, but they wanted some more information. Thanks!

I contacted the Audio Division directly at the number in the previous post. I told them my question, they put me in direct contact with the staff person who was responsible and I got a very informative and prompt answer to my question. They seem to be very busy, but very helpful!

Why bother?

The god squadders will be filing THOUSANDS of applications! With Republicans running everything, you really have no chance against them!

The fix is IN, guys! Don't believe me? Take a look at what WUSM just pulled!
