DEER PARK – WLIE is one step closer to God.

The Federal Communications Commission has given initial approval to the sale of locally owned WLIE-AM to Starboard Media, a Wisconsin-based Catholic talk radio network.

Back in April, Starboard, which calls its network Relevant Radio, agreed to buy the station from Stuart Henry for $14 million. The deal includes the sale of WLIE’s headquarters on Deer Park Avenue.

This is not the first time 540 has found religion. They had an inspiration format in their WLIX days about 20 years ago. As I recall, the studios had gone from downtown Bay Shore to the upper level of the Islip post office, then back to Bay Shore but across the street. It was in the format from that office, the station logo had a white dove on it.
