FCC Grants 96.7 Move

It appears that at some point over the last month, 96.7 WCTZ (Port Chester) has been granted a CP to move their transmitter to Yonkers...They applied for the CP awhile back but it took sometime to get approved....From their new site they will broadcast 3,300 watts @ 446' HAAT...They had a CP several months back when they were going to move the transmitter to Long Island but backed out on the move.

The WCTZ move to Yonkers will also cause 96.7 WTSX (Port Jervis) who also was granted a CP to move southwest to Lehman Township, PA...WTSX will broadcast 5,000 watts @ 230' HAAT.....WTSX's new signal will cover the Stroudsburg, PA area but most of its signal will only cover heavily wooded areas.

No word on when the moves will happen and what Cox will do with WCTZ once the move is complete.

And does that mean that W244AS in Oakhurst is going to move as well? Or is that transmitter just gonna go in general?

Are the 2 stations owned by the same company which would allow them to coordinate this move?

No, I believe WTSX is owned by Sunrise Broadcasting who owns 103.1 WGNY-FM...Currently WTSX is simulcasting WGNY-FM.......WCTZ is owned by Cox who paid the owners to WTSX to move their transmitter so WCTZ could move to Yonkers.

No I believe W244AS will stay put.....It will be interesting to see how far south WCTZ's new signal will reach given there's no pirates on the air.......My guess they will have a similar signal to 93.5 WVIP who also has their tx in Yonkers (until WVIP moves to the WFUV site).

Within 6 months, Stamford won't have to deal with the interference from 96.7 anymore. The tower is surrounded by homes.
The move to Yonkers will cause the pirate stations that currently infest 96.7 to move to different frequencies as most of their current coverage will be wiped out. The new 96.7 location puts a city grade signal in the Bronx, a 60 dBu signal in Manhattan, and a 55 dBu signal in Brooklyn and Newark.

I don't think that's really stopped pirates before....wasn't there a pirate on 92.7 in Brooklyn, for instance?

I would think that being on the same freq would certainly make them want to move.

WTSX has been "owned" by Jim Morley who was the former owner/gm of WEZN in Bridgeport...a station sold to...Cox Communications.. After Mr. Morley took over WTSX it was LMA'd by Sunrise Broadcasting a/k/a WGNY. Much of the operation was handled out of Newburgh NY as inexpensively as possible. So now it all makes sense. The "purchase" of WTSX from the very start was a calculated move to upgrade 96.7 in Stamford without regard to "serving" the population of port Jervis. Or so it seems.
