FCC has awarded Hawkeye Communications 98.9, Rosendale

News from 10 days ago: The FCC has awarded Hawkeye Communications AKA Sunrise Broadcasting the frequency 98.9, Rosendale for the top bid of $499K. Sunrise Broadcasting (WGNY AM/FM among others) is owned by Joergen Klebe .Hawkeye Communications is in his wife’s Irmgard Klebe name. By putting the license in his wife’s name they get a discount of 35% as a “woman-owned business” bidding credit, paying just $324,350. Now that Sunrise/ Hawkeye Broadcasting finally has the Poughkeepsie area frequency that they tried to put on AM for years I wonder what they will do with it? One thing for sure it will displace Bridgelight’s translator of WJUX Monticello already on 98.9, so that is a plus. Of course who knows how long it will take Hawkey to get the station on the air, and what the format will be .But I suppose Bridgelight will find another frequency to “save” us with, such as 102.5, which was originally assigned to this area, but could still be used as a translator.
