FCC "indecency" findings released!

So now the FCC has created a bias against affiliates in the Central and Mountain Time Zones. If "Without a Trace" runs at 10 pm, you're okay, but if it runs at 9 pm, pay up? Do we now need prime time to run from 8 to 11 in every time zone?

I still don't understand the FCC's argument that the non-O&O's shouldn't be fined for Janet Jackson because they didn't have control over the halftime show, but can fine non-O&Os for Without a Trace simply because it's prerecorded.

The FCC even recommends that affiliates could "edit" the objectionable parts. Good luck defending that lawsuit!

Reasoning for these actions`re posted on http://www.fcc.gov it`s very interesting reading (click the section on complaints between 2002 & 2005 especially). Are you referring to Janet KMLO, or everything in general?

If people on this board don't like this then we need to start sending email to our folks in congress. There is a small but growing group who is filing all of these conplaints. The only way to stop it is to let congress/fcc know that we don't need big brother/sister.....My personal 2 cents !

ps...yes they are crazy~

I have done that several times. All you can expect back is a standard form letter about how concerned they are about (insert current hot button issue) or how they are proud to represent you and where they stand on the issue. Also, do not use free web based accounts (yahoo, hotmail, gmail etc...) as these addresses are often ignored .

Your best bet is to vote for people who feel the way you do, in the upcoming elections.

And here comes the slippery slope I am afraid. When the Janet Jackson scnadal hit I gave the fCC a break. The program had no warning beforehand or a TV-MA (or TV-14 if I remember correctly) designation. The other fines were primarily shock jocks in the morning and Radio has no v-chip so I overlooked the issue. Now the old saying of first them then you is coming into being. The FCC is way out of line on several of these, most notable: parentally-warned movies and TV shows should be untouchable by the FCC. I say the rule of thumb should be "no warning, know fine" / "know warning, no fine".

If the "if it's after 10 pm, pretty much anything goes, but before that, it doesn't" rule is to continue to exist and isn't adjusted to account for that traditional timeshift (which existed long before the 10 pm rule was officially adopted), then yes, networks should run prime time from 8-11 in all time zones just to prevent future hassles like this.

FCC! Take the fines and put them where they belong, I won't say but you get the idea!
I say let the validity of the fines be tested in a court of law! Let the jury decide the issues and maybe we will see some common sense applied to the cases!
Time for these TV and radio companies to take the FCC to court and be done with it! Any backbone out there?
