FCC investigating Colbert Show

Can't escape the irony of Alex Jones, a broadcaster, turning to the FCC to try and
impinge on the free speech of other broadcasters.

Criticism of the President is the very sort of political speech that the First Amendment
is all about. Any true Conservative would understand that.

Of course. It was one thing when it's aimed at Obama. Quite another when aimed at Trump.

He's upset because the media is treating him the way he treated Clinton and Obama. That's wrong and unfair.

I say its Alex Jones the reason here is that he's the one most offended by Colbert because there was a Tuck Buckford clip where Colbert actually did a parody (More lewd than the FCC is investigating) of the incident where Jones bragged about being with 150 women on the Infowars show. It was lewd but Alex Jones was a top story at the time simply because he was in a child custody lawsuit and was facing a lawsuit by Chobani when the Infowars host bragged about an incident thats sounds more insane than the Roger Ailes scandal at Fox News.

Which media said anything negative about Obama except Fox News?

Read what I wrote. I said the media is treating him the way HE treated Clinton & Obama.

However, all of the media said lots of negative things about Obama's foreign policy (specifically Syria), his poor dealings with Congress, and his general inability to lead. There was regular criticism, particularly in the black media, of his inability to manage racial relations, which was seen as his strong suit.

My mistake. Thanks for pointing out the criticism from the black media.

Here's how the media works: If you dangle a piece of red meat in front of them, they will grab it. It doesn't matter who you are. Liberal or conservative. The media doesn't work that way. They jumped on Bill Clinton when the Lewinsky thing happened. They jumped on Obama with his radical preacher friend. They jumped on Hillary with her emails. All of the media did this. Not just Fox. They'll jump on anyone if they smell a story. Even if they like you. The problem with the current president is he throws so much meat in front of them that it overloads the system. They're punch drunk. Everything is a story, even if it's not.

There are exceptions. I am a 55 year old black man with 5 cousins in the black media from DC to LA. All of the Clinton, Hillary and Obama scandals that you named, 4 out of 5 of my relatives defended the democrats and blamed republicans. I am the sole republican, so family reunions are tense. :)

I hope Fallon can prevail. It's not easy to be an equal opportunity offender like Carson was in the current climate

I'm sure he will. "The current climate" can't last forever. I've always enjoyed his musical bits, and I think musicians in all genres really respect him.

That's exactly right. The media really tore into Bill Clinton. You would have thought that ALL media was Fox News. But really, they were just doing their jobs.

Well if the FCC was really going to enforce or investigate the rant isn't a stations license that is a CBS O&O go through a review. Note I seen some YouTube talk show hosts rant and its crazier than Colbert though when it comes to Trump.

That means that stations like KCBS/KCAL Los Angeles, KBCW/KPIX San Francisco and KOVR/KMAX Sacramento would either have their licenses denied or approved over the Colbert Rant if the FCC was really that serious to punish CBS in some form.

That's a huge leap. Unless a serious crime was committed, I doubt they'd be forced to divest. The only possible penalty here is a fine.

Unless you want the "biggest witch hunt in history."

No its just that I have doubts that the FCC wants to put itself in a position that they are abusing their powers when it comes to this rant. I don't want this to be lets pick which rants are approved or not approved. It ends in "why does this guy get away with this or that rant".

Rants are not illegal. Rants happen on TV pretty much daily. From Jerry Springer to Whoopie Goldberg.

Unless they determine it was obscene, it's just another rant, protected by the 1st amendment.

And even then, it's just a fine.

If Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Jared Kusher become FCC Commissioners - worry. Otherwise, I don't see anything bad happening to Colbert or CBS.

If those named in the earlier post become commissions it wouldn't matter. A commissioner or any other government official cannot violate the law. In fact, Congress wouldn't allow it. Everybody thinks the President is the one that pulls all the strings in government. Not so. You have much more to fear from Congress. I'm amazed how many seem to think otherwise. And so many think the FCC can do whatever it wants. Congress is the FCC's 'supervisor' aka boss.

Thats True also.
