FCC Releases Report & Order - Expanded Phone Bands!

Link: Report & Order (PDF file)

Biggest changes are the elimination of specific Novice subbands and expansion of phone privileges on 80, 40, and 15 meters. Novices and Techs+ can now operate in the full 80, 40, and 15 meter General Class CW/data bands at 200 watts output, CW only.

The 80/75 meter phone band is extended down to 3600 kHz for Extras, 3700 kHz for Advanced, and 3800 kHz for Generals.

The 40 meter phone band is extended down to 7125 kHz for Advanced and Extra, and 7175 kHz for Generals.

The 15 meter phone band is extended down to 21275 kHz for Generals.

No expanded privileges for Novice/Tech+ on 10 meters, as requested by some. No changes on frequencies below 54 MHz other than what I stated above.

Also, the FCC is authorizing auxillary stations on most of 2 meters and spread spectrum in the 222 MHz band.

There are many other changes as well, but the code requirement was not eliminated.

The new rules will take effect 30 days after publication in the Federal Register, which should happen in the next week or so. The R&O was approved on October 4th and released on October 10th.

Hi everyone:

Give 'em time. They'll have to do it eventually. They just haven't gotten through kissing His Majesty King George's ass yet. :(

Cheers & 73 :D
